My battery

I'm confused...

I have a phone with a shitty battery. It's my old one. I've noticed the battery getting progressively worse as time goes on, i.e. it holds a charge for less time and the phone randomly dies when the battery is full.

But this is about my laptop battery. It is not half as predictable as my phone.

Last weekend I came to Ken's house and plugged in my laptop because I wanted it to be fully charged the next day.

The next day the red light was on, which meant the battery died overnight. Ken was like "Oh yeah I have problems with that outlet. Sometimes I plug in my phone and it doesn't charge."

So I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and then MADE SURE that the charging light was on, which it was.

Of course I didn't use it that day. I took it home and when I next wanted to use it, the dead battery light was on again--EVEN THOUGH THE LAPTOP WAS OFF THE WHOLE TIME.

So I plugged it in to use it. It told me it was charging, and it suddenly spiked up to a half charge.

The next part is blurry. I think I charged it and left it unplugged in my room. I closed the lid. It should have turned off by itself. Instead it was dead when I found it again.

I turned it on and plugged it in again. I made sure my settings were set to turn off at a certain time. I let it sit there and charge for awhile...

When I came back, it was still plugged in, but it said the battery was dead. I literally opened the case and it said "Battery 0%". When I looked at the plugged-in notifier thing it said it was "Plugged in, not charging". WTF???

So I've been using it plugged in since then. With the dead battery light on.

Just now I plugged it in to use it, and it told me "84% full, charging". CHARGING?!

About 2 minutes later it said "100% full".

WHAT IS GOING ON.
