In the last few days I've tried something different when it comes to music: I've been listening to record straight through - from beginning to end. This is an odd practice, I know, but a practice that I have found very gratifying. In an age of iTunes downloads and mp3 players, it's so easy to ignore or just skip over an artists work and in doing so, cheating yourself out of a lot of good music and really latching onto the vibe of an album. When I first started to buy a lot of records (cassette tapes and some vinyl) I used to listen to the stuff front to back, over and over again and every song became familiar territory. I want to get back to that and learn to appreciate records again. Over the last year or two since I purchased an mp3 player I'd buy a new record, listen to it completely once or twice then put the best three or four songs on my mp3 player and those would end up being the only songs I ever listened to again from that album.
Listening to lately:
Joy Division - Permanent
Gerry Rafferty - City to City
Television - Marquee Moon
I started a
MySpace and a Facebook just to draw people to
ChrisFrancz.com and find the whole process of updating and thinking of what to put on these pages kind of annoying. I have little interest in sitting in front of the computer (online) for more than twenty-minutes. Kudos to those of you who do. That's it, I can't take it anymore....goodbye.
