inspiration for the peanut gallery

Dear Friends,

In this time of all our frustration and depression, I have resorted to a staple tune that amazingly wakes me up and reminds me of how good us Americans have it, and if not Americans, just us in general.

Holmes was a man who's entire family was deceased. He is the only living member of his ENTIRE generation. His family and relatives all died of natural causes, disease, or unusual circumstances. This, unfortunately, is one of the most unusual circumstances in family generation lines in American history ever. He married, and desperately wanted to continue his generational line since family gatherings at holidays were extremely lonely and unfufilling. He was deeply in love with his wife, who abruptly died shortly after his marriage in a car accident. After this terrible moment of his life, he lived as a recluse in deep depression.

One day, after visiting his wife's grave, he was inspired to fight this depression. He realized after reading numerous grave stones that day, that those people will be represented by their epitaph and that is all, forever - while he had an infinite amount of words to represent himself, as long as he was living.

He wrote a song entitled "The Writing on the Wall". This phrase became a staple catch phrase (and we all know I love catch phrases), for the entire world. When Holmes says "I have read the writing on the wall", it refers to his wife's grave, meaning he has read the deceased's final words, which most of the times are words of remembrance or inspiration. He has read the writing on the wall, and that is not a place he wants to be.

Here are the words :

"More than this,
more than what solution fits a crime,
what i've learned is that life is bits of time.
and you fight for every tiny speck
when you're held by the neck.

life is dear,
there can be no victory in defeat
if out-numbered, beat a fast retreat
to the nearest shelter and THEN dig in,
when you live, then you win.

scratch and claw for every day you're worth.
make them drag you screaming from life,
keep dreaming you'll live forever on this earth.

am i clear?
if you hear my voice then you're alive.
what a wonderous marvel we've survived
when you think of every risk we face in our mad human race.

i have read the writing on the wall
try to live forever, and give up never
in the fight - you'll need the wherewithal.
can't you heed the lightening as I plead,
inciting you to read the writing on the wall.
