ATTN: MEAT EATERS

Mar 17, 2005 08:49

Please give me your valid reasons for eating meat. I don't want bullshit reasons like "IT TASTES GOOD!" or "I LIKE TO KILL ANIMALS!". I also don't want reasons like "eating meat is healthier than a vegetarian diet" or "humans were meant to eat meat" because neither of those things are true. I'm doing a speech in which I have to address both sides ( Read more... )

My teeth are sharp and pointy, made to tear apart strips of meat. But actually, Daniel found an article that said vegetarians have a shorter lifespan than "omnivores" and I've read that somewhere too...but can't trust everything you read, sooo...also, I really don't eat that much meat, I just think it's silly when people have to group themselves into categories for whatever reasons they have and give themselves a title or a name or some nonsense. And one more...plants are the only living thing on the earth that don't feed off of other living organisms, and I think it's weird to single them out. BUT red meat is really really horrible and bad for humans in many ways, and I rarely like to eat it.

Personal preference...everybody's got their own taste. I like chipmunks (joking)! I have a feeling I might be put down for having this opinion, but oh well.

yeah, but you can't trust "studies" done by anyone. because the meat industry's studies say that not eating meat is bad for you and vice versa. for example, the meat industry says that soy protein causes cancer, however, paradoxically, the soy industry says meat causes cancer. hmmm... but, another point, leigh anne, the meat industry is the leading cause of pollution in the country, due to overgrazing and the such. and another point, 70% (this is a statistic though, so take it with a grain of salt) of the grain produced goes to feed livestock, which would not feed as many people as said grain would have.

With regard to your first sentence person I don't know, that would be why I said "can't trust everything you read, sooo..."

actually. . .our teeth are flat and rather dull, especially in comparison to, say, a dog.

and i think there are few people who are vegetarian just to fit into the category. if there are, those people don't count.

you're welcome to your own opinion, but even still, i haven't had a response that gives any sort of valid reason for me to argue for.

So is it okay for animals to eat each other? I'm confused on your point, you're quite vague. Also, I said MY teeth are sharp and pointy...I have no molar-like teeth, they are all canines. grrrrrar

But I see you live in a house which had to be built over land and (probably) trees which housed animals and gave them nutrition and now that house emits fumes and air conditioning freon into the air, don't think any of those things are good for animals. And I also see you drive a vehicle which pollutes the world and kills animals in its own special way. etc etc. So unless you live in the woods, without your material posessions and eating only dirt tofu, you are killing something everyday (plants are living beings just so you know). Not trying to argue, just saying what I think.

that's rather ridiculous logic, really. yes, i am still a human being and i still exist in the world. however, unlike meat eaters, i don't intentionally kill things for my satisfaction.

however, this post was made to talk about the validity of reasoning behind eating meat. if you'd like to question me about my thoughts on vegetarianism, we can do that another time.

that's because any valid reason that people might have is subject to a rather quick and easy counterpoint.

i didn't read this because it was so hard to comprehend, but a few things in my skim:

What are the "good" (to you) reasons to be a vegetarian or vegan? They are simply lifestyles that people chose for whatever reason. - see my post.

Vegetarians have the ability to be healthy however, it is a fairly hard task to accomplish. - wrong, as simple as that.

My main point to you is that you only see one side of the argument because that is all you want to see. - not true at all for me, i come from a group (christianity) where not eating meat is like some kind of horrible atrocity. and "[sic]how can you give both sides of the argument when you are bias?" how can you say this when you are trying to argue? obviously you are biased, thus negating your entire argument. because by that logic, my argument is flawed because i am biased to my own opinion and your opinion is flawed due to your preconcieved ideas.
