The summer has flown by. It seems like yesterday that exams were ending and I didn't know what I was going to do for the summer. I ended up spending ten weeks working at Camp Thunderbird with brief visits home to see the folks. I learned some very important lessons there. I know for sure that if I were to pass up teaching that I would be wasting an ability to inspire kids to want to learn and strive despite setbacks. I learned that I would be better suited to teach older kids because my ability to nurture and relate to the youngins is uh not that great. Middle school ages are the devil. I saw with all the different age groups that the older they got, their innocence seemed to diminish until all I saw was a child that was a poster child for pop culture. I hate pop culture because most of what it stands for is in direct contrast to Christ. It broke my heart to see 10yrs old girls wearing cloths, acting like and dancing like some of their icons. Britney, Jessica, Christina, Missy and Gwen come to mind.
I worked with some awesome people that lifted my spirits whenever the pressures would get to me. It seemed at times like I was a very small light in a very dark cave. What I had failed to realize was that one small candle is all it takes to light the way. Now that everything is said and done with I enjoyed camp. I am looking at going back next summer les I need to earn money for school.
Now for a short spiel about the trip to Charleston. Hauled back home after the staff dinner, unpacked, repacked what was clean and headed off to Rock Hill to grab April. Excellent navigator with an uncanny ability to make 3 1/2 hours seem like it was only 1. Hung out with Jimmy, Ben, Jason, April, Jeremy and Karen. Went to the Folly beach to catch some waves off the hurricane thats coming in. Saw one of my campers down on the beach and was like wow small world. Played pool and tryed some Killians draft that night. Got waxed because my game was uh rusty. Drove back up today so that I can start getting ready for school this week because freshman move in is on friday/saturday and I have to take care of books so that I can help. School starts next week and I have 3 semesters left because I have to teach. Scary but adventurous.
This has been a summer of love. I've been to one wedding so far but at least five of my friends have gotten married. Other unexpected people have started the dating path. One day.......
