"Sell High"

I like the song Little Boxes. I heard it in the 2nd episode of Weeds. It's about this mom whose life starts falling apart once her husband suddenly dies. They live in the suburbans and have this nice big house. She's desperate and apparently sells weed for money, and she can barely keep her kids under control. She tells her son Silas and his girlfriend not to have sex yet, they're only 15, and then she learns that they're not even virgins. The girlfriend's mom, Celisa, is uptight and bitchy and completely distrusts her daughter, and then sends her to boarding school in Mexico. Also, her husband is cheating on her with some Asian chick who is a completely airhead.

Even though Silas and his girlfriend, I forgot her name, promise not to have sex under Nancy's (the mom) roof, they skip school and have sex in the guest bedroom under an open skylight. When the girl disappears, Silas confronts Celia. He tells her that he loves the girl, and she's like No, you stuck your penis in her. That's not love. Trust me. Which made me laugh. And then when he asks why she went, Celia says it's a private family matter, and he goes, I'm her family. And he basically spends the rest of the episode brooding 'cause the girlfriend seems completely selfish by not even saying goodbye.

Meanwhile, Nancy's supplier is this cool black family and she tries to pick up on their slang while she chills at the house, and they support her. For the business though, she has to leave some of her valuables with them as a promise that she'll come back and not just run off with a higher supply of weed. First she swaps cars with one of the guys, but then Nancy's younger troubled son Sean breaks his arm, and she has to pay for that. So then the woman who runs the whole show says she needs to leave something bigger, so Nancy takes off her engagement and wedding rings. D:

I'm not sure how much I like the show yet, but it's intriguing just to watch how Nancy copes with everything that's messed up in her life and everyone else's around her. You can see in her reactions that it's a completely different world from the one she had known with her husband. We'll see how I far I get.

Weeeeeeeee.
