My birthday/ENGAGEMENT party!

A lot of you probably already know this from seeing it on facebook, but I got engaged on saturday night. :) My friends threw me a thirtieth birthday party. I told the two of them (as we were setting up lights and filling the cooler) that I wanted to tell Devon something. They both went absolutely dead silent (something I hardly noticed at the time). I said I needed help telling Devon that I was ready to get married, because I'd been saying that I'd let him know when I was ready, and I thought the time had come to do that.

ANYWAY. :) I was given some helpful advice on romance from Christin, and pulled Devon aside during the party. We went into the 'firepit' area of the woods around Debbie's house, and I told him I was ready to get married. It was very romantic, and I'm not going to ruin it by trying to describe it. We headed back to the party by the pool, and somehow Devon managed to get away from me. :) The next thing I knew, Debbie was walking out with a giant plate of cupcakes with candles in them. I blew them out after everyone sang 'Happy Birthday', and then Devon walked up with a heart-shaped cupcake. Someone (I can't remember who!) said 'this one's for you'.

I did not get it. :) :) I blew out the candle. Everyone seemed vaguely consternated. I was confused. I had noticed a gleam of silver around the base of the candle, so I assumed that it was one of those music-playing candles. "Is it supposed to play music?" I asked as Debbie came to re-light the candle at Devon's request. "That's okay, I don't mind." Then I noticed how she was cupping the candle as if she were trying to hide it from me. It didn't really hit home until Devon offered it to me again.

Did I mention Tenacious D was playing? :)

Devon got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was desperate to let it sink in, so I didn't say anything for what must have felt like a very long time to him. Of course, I said yes. :) I still can't believe that I told him I was ready to get married five minutes before he intended to propose. What are the odds on that?!? :)

..... I guess that's all there is to say! What I can't describe, I haven't. :)
