"I am glad you came."

Gokudera Hayato removed the cigarette from his mouth and dropped it, crushing it under his shoe. Popping a gum into his mouth, he walked towards the one who called him out by leaving a note in his locker. "Of course I came, stupid," he muttered as he placed his hands in his pockets.

Kyoko blushed a little as she looked at her classmate. "Well, Tsuna-kun said you'll be training as soon as school ends, so I was worried that you wouldn't show up."

"Since when did I not show up?" Gokudera said, a slight smirk forming on his lips. "Anyway, what's up?" He leaned against the wall beside Kyoko, fighting the urge to tousle the girl's wonderful-smelling hair.

"Oh, yes." Kyoko rummaged in her bag and pulled out a hand-sewn charm. Moving away from the wall, she presented it to Gokudera with both hands, bowing a little as she did so. "G-Good luck on your sumo competition!"

Hand shaking a little, Gokudera took the charm from Kyoko's hands and took a closer look at it. "W-What's up with this?"

"Just please accept it," Kyoko said with a smile as she stood beside Gokudera once more. "I hope it'll be able to bring good luck in your competition." She hugged her satchel and leaned her head sideways until it rested gently on Gokudera's shoulder. "Don't get injured okay?"

Gokudera huffed. "Idiot. I'll fight to the end even if I can't move anymore or else Tenth's reputation will be ruined." He kicked an invisible stone and stared up to the yellowing clouds.

"Oh..." Gokudera took a pause. There it was again, Kyoko's sad, faraway look. Every time Tsuna's name came up, she'd have that face, but Gokudera couldn't do or say anything.

Sighing, Gokudera raised a hand and rested it on Kyoko's head. "Idiot," he muttered. "I bet you gave charms to all of us. Didn't you?" he said as he smirked. "Always trying to not leave anyone behind."

Kyoko straightened up and gave Gokudera sheepish smile. "I-I did. I mean, Haru-chan said we should and... but! But yours is really special."

"Really?" Gokudera said, letting the charm hang from his fingers in front of his eyes. "I don't see anything special in it at all. Are you..."

Kyoko's arms wound around Gokudera's neck, the girl effectively embracing him. Kyoko's head rested against Gokudera's chest; she could probably feel his heartbeats accelerating. "It's special because it has all I have," Kyoko murmured against Gokudera's shirt. "Plus my hug."

Gokudera froze for a moment, surprised at Kyoko's action and worried that someone might see them. After a few moments, his expression softened and he sighed, placing his own hands on Kyoko's back and holding her close.

"Thank you, Kyoko-san."

He wished he could wear the charm like a necklace, like a prize, but Gokudera knew he couldn't. He wouldn't be able to bear the look on Tsuna's face if he ever finds out about this.

-----

Kyoko sat on a stone bench in one of the back gardens of the Vongola estate. She patted the bag lying beside her on the bench, assuring herself that it was still there and soon, she won't be alone.

She did not worry for too long, however. Within minutes, he sat beside her and held her hand which lay on the bag. "I'm sorry. I had to fix some things before going here."

Kyoko shook her head, tucking a stray lock of long hair behind an ear. "It's alright. I know you are busy as of late. Are the negotiations going well, Hayato?"

Gokudera was chewing gum again -- he was probably smoking before coming and he knew too well how much Kyoko hated cigarettes. "So far, the Tenth has managed to pacify the violent ones, but we can never be sure." He sighed and fiddled with the rings on his fingers. "I have to go back soon to discuss our steps with Yamamoto."

Kyoko smiled reassuringly. "I'm sure it'll be fine. Tsuna-kun's methods might seem outrageous at first, but he really thinks things through." She reached into her bag and pulled out a small box. "I've replenished your medicine kit." she said as she handed the box to Gokudera. "Don't overdo it again. Medicine and bandages can only do so much."

"Thank you." Gokudera gripped the box.

Kyoko stood up and took her bag with her. "I should be going. Romario-san might notice that I'm gone and it might cause a fuss in the mansion."

"Yeah, of course." Gokudera stood, too. "I'm sorry I can't escort you to the mansion..."

"It's alright. I know you can't leave Tsuna-kun. I have one of Romario-san's friends waiting for me by the gate, so I'm perfectly safe. I told him I just went to deliver something."

Gokudera still looked a little guilty, but after a moment, he pursed his lips and pulled Kyoko into a hug. "I'm really sorry. I'll visit you as soon as possible."

Kyoko smiled and placed her hands on Gokudera's shoulders. "I understand."

"Thank you."

Kyoko walked out of the garden, wishing she had the courage to enter the main mansion with Gokudera and talk with him inside. But she didn't want to know what would be the look on Tsuna's face if he ever finds out about this.

.end.

note: Le Chevalier de la Charette is the title of an old French poem narrating the love affair between King Arthur's most trusted knight, Lancelot, and King Arthur's wife, Guinevere. It literally means "Knight of the Cart".
