“Setomaru...”
“SSHHH!!” Seto Kouji placed a forefinger over his lips, silencing whoever might be behind him. He carefully peered through the crack of the slightly-opened door, trying to see what was happening inside.
Takiguchi Yukihiro, his co-actor and doubles partner, squatted beside him. “What the hell are you doing?” he whispered to the young man. He tried looking through the crack, too, but all he could see were a pair of legs and some murmuring he couldn’t understand. He poked Seto’s shoulder again. “Seto...”
“Keep quiet, Yukki!” Seto scolded him. “I’m trying to get information here.” He crept closer to the door and almost got his nose stuck between the door and the doorframe. “Can’t hear...anything,” he softly complained.
Takiguchi shook his head and sat down behind Seto. He knew now what this was about and needed not bug the guy. Ever since rehearsals for Rokkaku Myu started, Seto had started his weird habit of snooping around a certain person.
At first, he was perplexed. Seto was a normally shy guy who didn’t want to mingle with people that much. Yet during break time and dismissal and free time, he would crawl around and peer into rooms, guard the comfot room, and stay by the fire exit. Takiguchi could not understand Seto’s behavior, and being the usually concerned person, he decided to ask around if anyone knew about his doubles partner’s strange behavior.
No one from Seigaku knew the answer. Even Aiba who was the closest to Seto did not even notice the strange behavior. More worried than ever, Takiguchi cannot even act cheerfully, his brows occasionally furrowed in deep thought. Something was up, and it annoyed him because he did not know about it. Fortunately, he made a wise decision to ask the Hyoutei actors.
Aside from their famed punchlines and dorkiness, the Hyoutei cast was also known as the gossip pit of the Tenimyu fandom. No little issue could be hidden from them. They were notorious in getting information out of people, although sometimes, some of the info were wrong; like that time they announced that Minami had a thing for Aiba and caused quite a stir. Poor Minami had no idea they were all talking about him. It didn’t seem like he cared anyway. Aiba, though, was shocked and refused to talk to the Hyoutei guys for almost a week.
Anyway, according to Kenken (who was the most notorious gossip authority second to Saitou), someone asked Seto to shadow Aiba. And that person was the old Tezuka, Shirota Yuu. Since both Seto and this Shirota were from Watanabe Pro., Seto agreed to do it, especially since it wouldn’t be so hard now that he and Aiba were close friends.
When Takiguchi asked who Shirota was to Aiba anyway, Kenken’s voice went soft and urgent. He was, apparently, Aiba’s super jealous and possessive boyfriend. And it was taboo to talk about Shirota in the dressing room because Aiba did not know that everyone knew about their relationship.
“Did you hear something?” the person in the dressing room asked someone else. Takiguchi recognized the person who spoke to be Aiba. The other one must be Irei, since Seto once said Irei was watching over Aiba like a hawk these past few days.
Seto cringed and quietly got up from his squatting position, running away as fast as he could, but not without dragging Takiguchi with him. As they sped through the hallway, they heard Aiba open the door and say something about the people in the building acting suspiciously and how he had to ask the Hyoutei people about it.
“That was scary. I thought I’ll be caught,” Seto said as he panted. They stopped near the fire exit to catch their breaths. Seto placed both hands on his knees and breathed heavily.
“Well, if you would just quit snooping, then you won’t have anything to worry about.” Takiguchi was a bit annoyed that he was being dragged into the situation, but he could not resist accompanying Seto everywhere. He had grown to like the guy, and he was sure it was not because they were the Golden Pair. It was like, he wanted to always watch over him, as he watched over someone else.
Seto pouted upon hearing Takiguchi’s advice. “I can’t do that. I need to guard Aibacchi for Shirota-san. I owe him a lot and this is the least thing I could do.” He bent down to tie a shoestring which probably got loose while they ran. “If Aibacchi went out with Irei-san, Shirota-san would be desolate.”
Usually, Takiguchi would just smile and pat Seto on the back, telling him to be careful anyway and don’t get in Aibacchi’s way. However, today, he felt a little more irritable. “Why do you always end up minding other people’s business?” he wondered aloud. “It’s really difficult to talk to you these days without ending our conversation with Aibacchi or Shirota or Irei. I can’t even invite you over for...”
They heard voices down the corridor. Nimbly, they rushed to a corner behind the stairs and kept still. Takiguchi was about to whisper about his discomfort, being plastered against a wall, but Seto covered his mouth with a hand and pinned him down against the wall, keeping him quiet.
“Now, if I find out who was it that kept eavesdropping on me...” Takiguchi felt Seto stiffen. It was Aiba. He was slapping something against his palm, and Takiguchi was sure it was the hair iron. Seto closed his eyes firmly and placed his head on Takiguchi’s shoulder, his hand still covering Takiguchi’s mouth. Oishi’s actor could smell the shampoo Seto lathered on his hair after wearing that horribly flippy wig.
“I’m scared,” Seto murmured. It was not because Aiba was scary and would murder them with the hair iron, but because if Aiba found out about their snooping, he’d have a way of making them feel like they shouldn’t be alive (like revising the script so they had to drink the Inui juice and other stories not to be mentioned). Above all, they did not intend to awaken Aiba’s wrath.
Takiguchi and Seto flinched as they heard Aiba kick the emergency exit door sharply. They were about to start praying to all available gods, but luckily, Kujirai was there to call Aiba back to the dressing room and scold him for kicking the door. When they heard Aiba stomping away from the fire exit (while muttering that he was sure some snoops ran away towards there), they were able to breathe peacefully.
“That was fun,” Takiguchi sarcastically said as Seto’s hand was removed over his mouth. He gently patted Seto’s back, but the boy did not move, still leaning against him. “Setomaru?”
“Nee,” Seto said, still unmoving from his place and not looking up to him. “Are we having problems?”
“Eh?” Takiguchi suddenly remembered their conversation before angry Aiba came along. “N-no, we’re not.”
“You still like me?” Seto gave him the puppy eyes he was so weak to.
“Of course.”
“And I still like you, so there’s no problem with that.” Seto stood up straight and faced him, thinking deeply. “Are you having internal conflicts wherein you think I don’t love you enough and you should just force me to be with you all the time and not talk to anyone?”
Takiguchi paused. He did think of that, but not that seriously. “Uh...yeah, sometime ago, but not anymore.”
“Saturday, 5 PM?”
“Death Note. Popcorn.”
Seto tilted his head to his right and smiled. “Then we don’t have any problems.” Standing on tiptoes, he pressed a light kiss on Takiguchi’s lips. “So, I want Shirota-san and Aibacchi to end up like us, so please let me do my job?”
Takiguchi did not know if it was the kiss or Seto’s sugary-sweet voice that made him nod his agreement. But since he already nodded to it, he could not take it back. Sighing with defeat, he patted the hair at the back of Seto’s neck. “Just remember to come back to me periodically, in case I miss you a lot and find comfort in someone else’s without you knowing it.”
As they walked back to the dressing room, Seto held his hand. “Oh, I’ll know about it.”
“How?”
When Seto merely smiled and entered the dressing room to meet up with Aiba as if they weren’t dead scared moments ago, Takiguchi had a fleeting feeling that he knew why sometimes, he felt that someone was watching him as he was going home or stopping by a booth to use the phone.
He wondered if he should ask Kujirai if all D-BOYS were possessive. As far sa Takiguchi knew, Kujirai had a D-BOY love affair, too...
END
Sigh...I wish I could write something better but I have yet to see some more interaction between them.
