Lately, I have been rather disgusted by what I have heard and seen from “fellow Edge” kids. It seems our one respected movement has increasingly view by what I fear to be from both the in and outside as a joke or a fad more than ever. Kids these days claim cheat and break like it’s no big deal. It makes me fucking sick to see this…. The reason for this I believe is because of the lack of consequences. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think kids should necessarily “get jumped” for breaking, but I don’t think it should be over looked like it’s no big deal! Sxe today is tainted with morals that have movement. These morals I’m talking about are acceptance and forgiveness. Sxe is “true till death “no if and or buts. No tolerance! No acceptations! If you break you should be ashamed. For those who don’t know sxe is no drugs, drinking or promiscuity. Doing any of these things is SELLING OUT! And there are no take backs and no redeeming. No forgiveness! From the mid 80’s through the late 90’s it seemed as though people were more cautious about claiming edge. To reinter rate it seems they claim and break like its nothing at all…. And the only thing I can attribute this to is the lack of a few main things; fear, respect, and clear understanding of just how seriously this should be taken. With kids getting their x’s tattooed on them and then selling out 2 weeks later (before it’s even done healing), how can you blame the general public for not taking it seriously. It’s time we step up and take our movement back, and return it to its former glory. Start calling out the traitors, posers, or sellouts for this behavior is weak and thus weakens the movement. Sellouts are a slap in the face and should be treated as such with some sort of retaliation to prevent further disrespect. I leave it up to you to decide how far you wish to take the retaliation, but it’s a must! Negative consequences will in turn make one think twice about starting something they won’t finish. For in straight edge there is “no” honorable discharge, only 2 ways out once you start, either die with your pride and honor or take the dishonorable discharge. For there is “no” honor in selling out.
