Stencil Photoshop Tutorial

Jun 28, 2005 15:12

This is really just for Fysh. It is the Photoshop tutorial that I promised. I hope you have this if not there are other packages that I can do one for!

Part 1. Open Photoshop and open up the image that you want to use as a stencil. I have chosen a picture of The Music just so you get an idea of converting a colour image.

Part 2. Go to Image, adjustments, desaturate to turn your image black and white.

Part 3. The go to Image, adjustments, Threshold to make your image more black and white to to pick up the bits of the image that you need.

Part 4. Mess a round with the threshold until you are happy with what you see.

Part 5. Select the rubber tool and tidy up the background of your image until you are happy with it.

Part 6. Go to filter, artistic, cutout to choose how you want your image to look.

Part 7. Mess around with the sliders on the right until you see what you like!

Part 8. Select the brush tool and tidy the image up. REMEMBER that white 'Islands' in the middle of black are not good and can cause confusion to people new at this. You can cut the islands out and use them when making your shirt so you paint around them. In other words keep the islands that you really really need, if not fill them in.

Part 9. To finish off the image to make it easier to cut out go to Filter, Blur, Blur and blur the image about twice.

Part 10. You are done! Tidy up other bits that you need and then print onto freezer paper or acetate!
