I personally like this chapter, so I hope more than ever that you like it. ^^ I couldn’t choose a line to be a preview though, so I just chose a pretty random one. And oh, how I’d love to be in Mai’s shoes right now.

“It’s for you,” Mai handed it to him, and took his workbook.

☂ CHAPTER EIGHT ;
After school the next day, Nino followed Mai to a sushi restaurant.
“Hey, what’s up? Sick of your boyfriend’s ice cream?”
“He’s not my boyfriend,” Mai sighed.
Nino took out his workbook as Mai ordered sushi. When she came back, she had a sushi container with her.
“I can’t believe a girl exists with this appetite,” Nino said.
“It’s for you,” Mai handed it to him, and took his workbook.
“What?” Nino replied, confused. Then he realized what must have happened.
“Oh geez. I was right wasn’t, I?” he grinned. “I WAS FREAKING RIGHT. I TOLD YOU, BUT YOU WOULDN’T LISTEN. I WAS FREAKING RIGHT, MAI MAI.”
“Shut up!” Mai harshly whispered. “Anyway, I’ll give you ice cream at school tomorrow.”
“Why can’t we go to your boyfriend’s place and get ice cream there?” Nino smirked. Mai kicked his leg as she studied his workbook, trying to find faults. Which wasn’t that hard.
Nino opened the container. She really did order him five rolls.
He took two and put them on the lid. He slid it over to Mai’s side of the table. Mai raised an eyebrow up.
“You think I can eat as much as you?” Nino asked.
Mai put his workbook down. “You’re the only person I know who can be nice and mean at the same time,” she said, taking a sushi roll.
Nino smiled. He had a comeback, but… For some reason, he liked the mood that surrounded them now. He had no wish to ruin it.

The next day, Mai sat down next to Aiba around Arashi’s table again. Kyoko sat next to her.
She looked around the table.
In just five days, school for her has changed. She hasn’t made a single friend in the three years she’s been in this school, then all of a sudden, she sits with Arashi during lunch. And this all started when she was forced to tutor that brat.
‘I don’t know if this is a good thing or not,’ Mai thought to herself.
Then Ohno came and sat across her. “Hey Mai,” he smiled.
‘It’s a good thing,’ she made up her mind.
“Hi Satoshi,” she shyly smiled back.
“First name basis, huh?” Aiba observed.
Nino was confused. Ohno and Mai? Friends? Really? ‘Wait, where’s my ice cream?’
“Oi! Mai Mai! Get me my ice cream!” Nino shouted across the table.
Mai groaned. “I forgot to bring money, Nino… I never buy food at school, and Toma always gives ice cream to me for free…”
“Eh? What’s this?” Kyoko asked. “Why are you bullying Mai-chan, Nino?”
Nino grinned. “I won a bet.”
“What bet?” Jun asked.
“It’s a secret,” Mai quickly replied. She sent a glare to Nino. Nino just winked at her.
“Aye, the next test is on Friday, in two days’ time. You guys ready?” Sho asked.
“Hell yeah. Mai Mai’s been tutoring me, how could I not be?” Nino joked. “Oh, and Mai Mai, get ready to tell me who you like!”
Mai glared at him again. ‘Why would you say that out loud, you brat!’ she thought. She knew what he was going to do next, but there was no point trying to stop him.
He laughed. “Oi, minna. If I get 90% or over, Mai Mai promised she’ll tell me her crush!~”
“Ehhh?! Mai-chan likes someone?” Kyoko, Jun and Aiba exclaimed together.
“Who is it?” Sho asked curiously.
“Ikuta-san?” Ohno guessed. Mai shook her head quickly.
“You better study hard, Nino,” Kyoko said. “I wanna know who Mai-chan likes!”
-
Mai paused. Where would they go?
“So where are you going to tutor me today?” Nino asked. “Your boyfriend’s or the sushi restaurant?”
“I don’t know,” Mai sighed, not even bothering to tell Nino off for calling Toma her boyfriend.
It will feel awkward with Toma, and he’ll definitely ask her for her answer. And she hadn’t really thought of what to say yet. How can she say no without hurting him? And he’s her best friend! Saying no will ruin their friendship… Saying yes, however, will turn it into a relationship.
“But I don’t want a relationship!” Mai groaned to herself.
“What are you talking about, crazy woman?” Nino smirked.
“Mind your own business. Argh, I’ve got no choice then. Let’s go to your house, Nino,” she sighed.
“Ha, no way. Why not yours?!”
“Because!”
-
“Ninomiya Kazunari desu. Dozo yoroshiku,” Nino bowed.
“Ahhh, what a good-looking friend you have, Mai-chan!” Mrs. Yoshida smiled at Nino.
Mai groaned.
