Everyone always talks of childhood innocence and how it "used to be." Well, I finally encountered this first hand. I always knew it was true, but now im sold. He just stood there in his "Bob the Builder" t-shirt, cute little hiking boots with untied laces, snot crusted nose, and juice stained mouth. I was eating ice cream and I knew he was eying it. He turned and started to approach me, "is that ice cream?" "Yes, why?" He proceeds to look over my shoulder into my ice cream cone just to check as if I was lying to him. "I want strawberry ice cream, is that strawberry ice cream?" "No, its vanilla." He looks longingly into the ice cream cone one last time before plunging his hand right in and breaking off a piece of my waffle cone as I had been doing. It was fucking FANTASTIC! Walking right up to a stranger in a terminal and uninvitingly eating their food. Wow. I made a friend that day. My first and only single serving friend. His name was....well I couldn't quite understand him but it started with a "C". After we had shared some ice cream together, he went on to tell me about how his "Daddy" is overseas in Kuwaitt saving Americans or something to that extent. It was really touching. He was so proud to say that to me. Its amazing being so young and so able to befriend anyone. I had forgotten what it was like to think that your dad was the best guy on earth. His dad was certainly his hero. Its so amazing that this Kid could get ice cream, some good music, and a friend in all but 5min. Im happy I had this experience. I'll certainly never forget him.
