I Quit

The time has finally come for me to leave BU and start a new life elsewhere.

On Tuesday, December 19th, I made history.  I told Joe that I'm leaving and starting a new job at the beginning of the year.  I was surprised at his reaction because I had imagined it being a shock to him and there being a pressured situation where he'd say with panic, "Paul, but you can't!  We need you!"

Not this time.  I was anticipated to make a decision because I told people with a faint hope that it'd stay a secret.  But secrets are sluts and that's how it will always be.  I don't care.  I'm doing this for myself and no one else.  If someone told my boss already, that's irrelevant at this point.  All that's left is to shake hands and thank him for the opportunity.  That will come Friday.

So, the new job...

...Wow, I feel like I'm talking about a girl.  She's smart, funny, makes me happy, and I am so grateful to have met her...

*Chuckle*  That already happened 2+ years ago...

ANYWAY.  I'll be working at Fidelity, basically as a customer service rep answering the phone and giving callers requested information about their 401k accounts, which lie in the tax-exempt sector, i.e. governments, colleges, universities, healthcare, places like that.  Plus I'd perform transactions of various kinds.  There's more to it than that, but it's unnecessary to bore you with details unless you really wanted to hear all about it, to which I would graciously oblige.

The most important thing is that I've broken through and am going somewhere with more opportunity than before, in terms of pay and advancement, possible college coursework I can take because of better work hours, etc.  Plus it's a lot closer to home and I'll have the chance to cash in on some nice overtime when it gets busy (tax season?).  All of these gold mines are waiting for me to go running in with a spade and the largest train of carts to make a killing here for me and my career.  I can't wait.

It wasn't all bad at BU.  I'll miss the good relationships I had with students and co-workers.  I feel bad that I didn't have a chance to say goodbye to everybody, but I guess it's just as well.  It happens.  I'll look to maintain some of those relationships through time and not forget the good times I did have.  Joe's -great- singing, talking trash with Marcia the clerk, acting crazy at dinner on Fridays...Saturdays...well, everyday.  Being eccentric gave me loads of energy and the ability to push through not wanting to deal with the next issue, as well as boost employee morale and making others act just as crazy.  Towards the end I think I had a good following with most of my employees, as they seemed to enjoy my presence despite being a manager.

¡Y recuerde que hay aprende mucho español!  ¡Gracias Cecilia!

Between now and January 8th I'll have LOTS of free time...so anything and everything is a go.

Jeremy: Wah wah wee wah!

Courtney? Niggees?: Wareham pub crawl next week?  Let me know.

TENORS: Schnozzola?  YES.

So, Friday.  Two days away...

Here we go...
