Ann smiles. “Looks like you haven’t gotten very far, dear. What’re you making? Mind if your sister and I stick around?”

Samantha looks to Lindsay. “We were going to make…”

“Pancakes,” Lindsay blurts out quickly.

“And eggs,” Samantha adds; Lindsay nods. “But just so happens I’m fresh outta eggs.” Samantha shrugs innocently and looks to the ground. Awkwardly, she folds her hands in front of herself, feeling overly exposed in her boy boxer panties. She can still feel the buzz of pleasure between her legs.

As Ann walks toward the fridge, Samantha takes a deep breath in and holds it. She desperately hopes she forgot to buy eggs on her last grocery run.

“Samantha!” Ann exclaims. Samantha winces; busted, she thinks. “You haven’t even got milk. You know how important it is for women to drink milk!”

She sighs, relieved. Lindsay giggles nervously. “I know. I haven’t been home much lately but I should know better. I’ll go pick some up.”

Ann shakes her head and wags a finger at her daughter. “Nonsense. Charlotte and I will go. You two set the table and we’ll bring something back. And get dressed, won’t you? Can’t very well eat breakfast in your knickers.”

Samantha nods and laughs, thanking her mother. Lindsay heads for the bedroom to get dressed while Ann heads for the door.

Charlotte stays behind, smiling at Samantha. “We won’t be long.” She grins knowingly at her twin sister; is her post-orgasm glow that obvious?

Samantha blushes. Sometimes she hates having a twin sister who knows her so well. Charlotte laughs and follows Ann out to the car.

Lindsay saunters out from the bedroom, a new combination of Samantha’s clothes on; this time a pair of loose jeans and a white v-neck. “Want me to set the table?” she asks, kissing Samantha softly on the cheek.

“That was really close, you know?” Samantha says, breathing another sigh of relief.

Lindsay smiles but her expression betrays guilt. “Sorry. I would have stopped if you said to.”

Samantha grins, her cheeks still flushed. She wraps her arms around the girl’s waist. “I didn’t want you to - that’s the problem.” She kisses Lindsay hard and pulls her closer.

It doesn’t take long for them to get caught up in the passion, hot skin touching hot skin and hands pawing at articles of clothing. It’s Lindsay who experiences a moment of clarity and turns her cheek to Samantha, screeching things to a halt. “You need to get dressed before they get back. Almost getting caught once is enough for me.”

Samantha’s arms drop to her sides and she lowers her head, ashamed but mostly disappointed. “Alright, fine. You’ll set the table then?” Lindsay nods and presses her lips gently against the woman’s forehead.

On her way into the bedroom, Samantha steps on something small and plastic - baby Attikus’ forgotten pacifier. She picks it up, dusts it off and smiles. While she dresses, she still holds it tightly in her hand. Rubbing her hands against her bare stomach, she glances at herself in the mirror and tries to push out her gut.

“Baby, c’mere!” she shouts to Lindsay in the kitchen. “I want to talk to you about something.”

Cutlery clangs in the drawer and then again on the table before Lindsay comes running to the bedroom.

She leans against the doorframe, freckled arms crossed against her chest. “What’s up, angel?” she says with a smile.

As Samantha pulls her t-shirt on over her head, she gestures for Lindsay to sit on the bed.

The girl panics though she knows she shouldn’t have to. This must be a serious talk, she thinks, and from past experience, these kind of talks don’t end well between them. “Is everything okay?” Lindsay asks, a nervous lump forming in her throat.

Samantha nods and sits down on the edge of the bed beside her. She rolls the pacifier’s rubber tip back and forth between her fingertips. “Well, as you probably noticed, I’m not getting any younger…”

Lindsay watches the woman expectantly. She’s pretty sure she knows what direction this conversation is going in, but waits patiently for Samantha to finish her thought.

Samantha pauses a few moments longer.

“I’d really love for us to have a baby.” She stares Lindsay straight in the eye when she says this, searching the girl’s face for a reaction.

Lindsay’s mouth slowly turns up into a smile. Her eyes glisten as she fights away tears of surprise, of happiness.

After swallowing back the lump in her throat, Lindsay places a soft kiss on Samantha’s mouth and wraps her arms around the woman’s shoulders.

They separate from their embrace and walk together to the kitchen, hand-in-hand. Lindsay bumps her hip against the woman’s.

“First you propose. Now you’re talking babies. What other surprises have you got up your sleeve, Miss Ronson?”
