For
challenge 16 at
beacon_hills we had to create a superhero identity for one of the characters from Teen Wolf. I chose my favorite character, Erica Reyes.
Human Identity: Erica Reyes
Superhero Identity: Mind Reader
Powers: Erica possesses both telepathy (the ability to read minds) and telekinesis (the ability to move objects with her mind). Her telepathy manifested before her telekinesis did and is far more developed, which is why she chose the identity Mind Reader. In addition to ‘pulling’ thoughts from another individual’s mind, she is able to ‘push’ her own thoughts into the minds of other individuals. This allows for a silent two-way conversation. Using her telekinesis she is able to lift objects much larger and heavier than the average human being could lift. She’s been known to lift objects that weigh more than one ton.
Weaknesses: Erica’s telepathy can be impacted by the presence of metals. This means that something as simple as a tin foil hat can prevent her ability to read an individual’s mind. Her telekinesis is still new, so it is not always accurate, and she occasionally drops objects she is attempting to move.
Power Origins: Erica was born with the ability to read minds. As a child, she did not recognize her ability for what it was, and misinterpreted the thoughts she was hearing as being part of a conversation. This often got her into trouble with adults and saw her alienated from her peers for being weird. Her telekinesis manifested with the onset of puberty. Around the same time that she was struggling with this new ability, she recognized her telepathy for what it was. Both of Erica’s parents are powerless, but Erica had a ‘strange’ aunt on her mother’s side of the family who died before Erica was born that Erica suspects was like her, causing Erica to believe her abilities are genetic.
How She Uses Her Powers: Erica uses her powers for crime prevention and rescuing citizens in danger. Her telepathy enables her to eavesdrop on the citizens on Beacon Hills in public places to see who may be thinking about committing a crime. If she happens to overhear someone planning a crime, she places a tip with her source in the police department. She occasionally doubles as a lie-detector, helping her police source interrogate a suspect to determine their guilt or innocence. Her telekinesis comes in handy whenever the locals need help. She’s used her ability to fight bad guys, lift debris from accident scenes, and rescue cats in trees.
