I'm toooooooooooooooo hype on this Thailand thing. I can't wait. I have to get a million things in order before I go, but I'm just psyched that I have a JOB. Wheeeeeeee!!! I'm going to be teaching English. Can you imagine? It's hard for me too-- it just doesn't seem quite real yet. Oh, you best believe there'll be a blog for all of this. I just have to think of a clever enough name.
I might go to Iowa in the middle of September, mainly to sleep on Josh's couch and to hang out with my old college friends. It seems to soon to visit, true enough, but I think I might regret not seeing people when I am a million miles away for seven months.
Alex Carlson, I had a great dream last night. It involved you driving to Chicago and then picking me up to go to Ames with you. We went to a party at Tim Hart's place. Man, I wish that would happen in real life. I have such a crush on Tim.
There's this guy at work I can't stand. I always want to set myself on fire when I'm around him. He's a condescending jerk who thinks he's the boss of *everyone*, even, I suspect, the people who are the bosses of him. Other than that though, I'm having a great time at work. Everyone else is fun, the shift of power seems to have boosted morale by a million percent, and there's no end to the good times we can have talking about guests. One of my co-workers told me about his theory that the world will end in 2017, presumably because of the commies, who are, obviously, anyone who doesn't think that we should unilaterally attack other countries. (By the way, Laura, your friend Dennis says "hi".)
I keep doing touristy things, like going to the aquarium and to famous delis and taking pictures around town. I suspect this will be comforting when I'm away from home for the longest I've ever been away. I'm going to buy a used apple computer, which, hopefully, won't backfire on me. I'm also in the market for a cheap, used iPod. I just can't justify spending thousands of dollars on a brand new computer when I don't really need it for much besides storing pictures, corresponding with people and being on the internet while I am away. Surely a $600 used Powerbook will be enough until I get back stateside.
Overall, I'm pretty happy. Except for the fact that Josh W. leaves Chicago for San Francisco tomorrow and I still haven't seen him. A part of me says that it's not important, but a much more significant part says that I need to see him fairly soon (like, today, or this evening) since I haven't seen him in nearly TWO years. I might never see him again. Ever. But hopefully things will work out and we can go out for drinks, otherwise I might have to go to California, as I have been planning to do for quite a while.
I think I might move to Iowa City for a year after I come back from Thailand, and then who knows? Oh yeah, I guess I should prepare for that whole Ph.D. business. Shit. MORE SCHOOL!!! It'll be like I never even left.
