Who killed the electric car???

Aug 05, 2006 22:26

I saw the movie of which name is the title of the post and I must say, it got me thinking.

Thought #1: ( Who the hell do these car companies think they are?? )

intellectual masturbation, politics

Oh, and somehow I got conned into going to see Snakes on a Plane on like, opening night. Ha! Lame!

I'm sorry you feel that way...

Also, sorry I didn't include an afk message again tonight. I was distracted by my apartment mate <3

don't you think it's depressing to discover in depth (I'm sure we both already knew) that some of foundations of this country are corrupt economic models? at least there is hope if consumer demand changes. heh.

and I forgive you. But I'll remember that you've been naughty. ;-) I can't wait to see you. I don't think I can last til then without talking, wanna call me? I just have dancing 4-6 your time today methinks. <3

I wouldn't say its corrupt, its just not perfect. The system is just a massive set of rules and this ruleset isn't perfect and has various loopholes. Just like a game these loopholes can be used to your advantage.

For example, a vehicle over 8,500 lbs isn't bound by the CAFE requirements. Thats why SUV sizes suddenly jumped, the manufacturers benefit from making vehicles that are larger. This loophole closes in 2011 though, so the era of the huge SUV is ending. Or the era of massive CAFE fines is coming, one of the two.

The very economic system that we are working in invites these kind of corruptions, such as in the case of the electric car.

Its not corrupt, atleast not in the sense of Grandville's former police chief. The system relies upon consumers being willing to stand up to a company and demand what they want. This just isn't true. Would you boycott the automotive industry? You might, I might, but most people will just go "rabble rabble rabble okay fine I'll take that car." GM, Ford, etc all know this. People say they want this and that, but they'll settle for whats available ( ... )

What leverage would they have? especially when all car companies band together and do the same thing (as in the case of the electric car).

Find enough people who will settle for nothing other than a ZEV and you will get your ZEVs. They just have to have enough of a spine to stand firm and demand a ZEV.

BTW 8% of US oil production was just shut down because there are 12 pipes in Prudhoe Bay with 'severe corrosion'. Prepare to bend over for your next fillup.

I don't really watch documentaries for their entertainment value. Is new knowledge sometimes depressing? sure.

Above, I was commenting on your classification of this movie as "just more bad stuff." I didn't think it did it justice.

wanna call me?

Yeah. I'm going to do laundry so I'll give you a call after I get breakfast (yes, it's 2:40, but it's still called breakfast, dang it).

I said more "depressing" stuff, not bad. It's not that I don't want to learn or watch the movie for the sake of learning. I only wish removing ignorance were more pleasant.

I would never call that movie bad. Unless I watch it and it is really poorly done. ;-) Even then I'd probably give them a high five for effort.

Replace the word "bad" with "depressing" then...
