Cool, calm, and composed is the master, trained in body, mind and soul, clear of mind and -- oh, goddamnit it all.

It didn't take long for Li to write off the whole "stand under a waterfall and meditate" nonsense once and for all. Supposedly, it was a method of training, but after feeling cold, wet, and cranky, she decided it wasn't really helping much.

As she sat at the edge of the pond near the small waterfall shivering, she mulled over her previous failure. The ultimate move was meant to be a last resort, a finishing blow against a truly powerful and dangerous enemy, and yet she kept whipping it out. That last fight was meant to be a friendly bout, and yet she hadn't held back at all.

Well, it's only fucking fair, he was using magic, right? I had to compensate.

Yeah, against a little kid who admits his magic's th' only way he can fight at a higher level. The fuck's wrong with you?

It wasn't a fair fight!

Sure as hell wasn't! You knocked him out! Were you training him, or just trying to win?

A part of it too, she was certain now, was just because he was a guy. A young guy, sure, but a guy regardless, and that constant urge to prove herself on equal grounds, if not better, than any guy in a fight had come to the forefront.

"Damnit, you old bastard. Why couldn't you have been a total asshole so I had less to live up to," she muttered. That underlying insecurity, the one that stated she was only the master because there had literally been no other choice, flared to the surface for a moment, again, and she had to fight it down. What good was a physical victory if she still couldn't reach that same level of respect her master commanded for the RIGHT reasons?

She shivered some more. Whoever came up with this waterfall shit needed his ass kicked.
