pretty little dresses

It's probably this weather that's been making me so restless, but I just can't.. stop... online shopping! Even when the economy is failing, even when I have to pay rent and electricity and internet, even when I have absolutely no need for more clothes, I can't stop. Curse you, internet! Curse you for making purchasing at the click of a button so easy!

Nevertheless, I am excited about the things I bought; I made my first purchases on modcloth.com. *chills of delight* My only problem is that though Modcloth has been a longtime favorite site to browse, I've found it is more practical to use the site as a starting point and finding the outfits cheaper elsewhere. (My excuse for being patron to the store is because some dresses happened to be on sale.)

Example 1:

Nantucket Weekender Dress" at Modcloth, sold out at $94.99

vs.
"Tie-Neck Petal Dress" at Tulle4us for $38
http://www.tulle4us.com/Tulle/dresses/S6099/

Example 2

"Keiko Lynn Dress" at Modcloth for $49.99

vs.
"Annabelle Navy Polka Dot Dress" at Ruche for $36.99

AND. You can almost always get coupons for either website. I usually get all my online discounts/coupons here at RetailMeNot, but I neglected to look one up for Modcloth when I made the purchase. And there are coupons. Damn it.

All this online shopping makes me think I understand the industry better and could open up an online retail clothing store myself. Which is silly. BUT MAYBE. The keys to success seem obvious, but it's evident that not all retailers get it. Big, flattering pictures of products. Easy navigation. Cute, clever renames for pieces--very important, actually! Modcloth is the perfect example. The renaming of the pieces make them not only more appealing ("Awww, a cupcake dress!"), but also, it obscures the brand name and creates difficulty for users to find the clothing elsewhere.

Anyways. The purchase I actually made! I bought 3 dresses, but I'm most excited about this Dear Creatures piece.

I only discovered this indie designer very recently, and I'm itching to have their entire line. I'm lusting after their beige check version of this, but I have no idea where it's being sold!

Their inspiration this season is "1960s Girl Scounts, teepees, and science experiments."

Totally precious and right up my alley. I wonder if my attachment to all things uniform-like has to do with the fact I actually wore a uniform for most of my childhood or that I am a Japanophile?

Anyhoo, I've also quite taken to thrifting and purchasing vintage pieces on Ebay (the big Woodland thrift store raid is in two weeks!), but I might have to talk about that another time. I'm getting kinda tired and I don't have a camera to show them off anyway. So, in short! A non-comprehensive list of fashion/lifestyle blogs I like. The first two are quite more modern and the second two have a more old-timey feel. Please recommend more to me, if you know of any good ones.

All this, in preparation for my current wishlist. Mostly for my own reference to come back to and slowly purchase as the funds arise. I need a job.

I haven't blogged in so long that I didn't really know where to start; a lot has happened in these past few months that went undocumented. So, I just tried to write about what I've been doing mostly these past few days, which was online shopping. Next time, I'll try to be a little more real. Like, HOW I AM SO HAPPY THAT MY PERIOD FINALLY CAME, HAHA. Happy doesn't even cover the emotion that occurred this morning. It was ... miraculous. Divine. Sublime. Just... totally freaking awesome that I was finally bleeding like a beezy off the heezy. I really thought I was pregnant for a while.
