Hey roleplaying folks!
aetitus,
amanuma and I just finished thiiiis little beauty right under the cut over here:
You receive a letter. This may be an ordinary occurrence to you, or a rarity. Either way, it looks normal enough - apart from having no return address or any included name at all in its contents. It reads:
“Greetings.
I apologize ahead of time for the heavy burden this letter entails. You see, something terrible has occurred, and I... well, the spirit world needs your help. Please read the following with an open mind.
Youkai have gotten loose. For those unfamiliar, these are demons, spirits, and monsters. The infamous Kitsune and Tanuki have stolen an ancient tome, summoning them right off the pages. Your assistance is needed to get these creatures under control, and return them to the book and seal them once and for all. I have done the first part, and sealed the youkai, Kitsune, and Tanuki in the spirit world. They are contained in Enkaku Machi - the Isolated Town. If they are allowed to escape back to the living world, I’m afraid the consequences would be great.
I do hope you will aid us, especially as this can potentially affect all of human kind. You may be required to fight, or you may be of no use after all. It’s really up to you. You will be summoned regardless.
Thank you.”
You may think its rubbish and throw it away, or maybe curiousity drives you into taking it seriously. Perhaps you don’t even care - or you’ve waited all your life for something exciting to happen. Whether you throw the letter away, leave it on your desk, shove it in a pocket, it doesn’t matter - as soon as you read it, your fate was sealed. You may have forgotten, but the writer of the mysterious letter has not. A bright light engulfs you, and suddenly those words echo in your head: ”You will be summoned regardless.” And then the sensation of falling, falling, falling... until you hit the ground.
“Hello,” an old man’s voice rasps in front of you. Everything’s still dark and blurry, adjusting from travel to the living world to the spirit world as you sit there on the ground. Not that you realize that’s what it was, yet. Was it just you, or did that fall not hurt that much? It may not have, but your body sure aches. “You may need a while to recover from your journey. Anyway...” The man clears his throat, and suddenly everything is clear; from the old man’s wrinkles, to the old wooden boards beneath his feet, to the shelves of books beyond him.
“Welcome to Enkaku Machi.”
