(no subject)
So the rumors are true....I'm in Prague.
For those of you unfamiliar with Eastern Europe, I'm here.
I got here last saturday in the afternoon. I'm living in a dorm with a whole load of American students. I was kind of hoping that this would be a much more international affair. Unfortunately, that is not the case, so I am stuck with a bunch of American College Students living up the stereotype. Loud americans smoking and drinking to excess. All they want to do is drink and get high and that's about it. I'm surprised, the guys don't even seem all too interested in picking up Czech girls...just drinking. Oh well.
So I find myself alone a lot. Which would not really be a problem if I could wander the city more. But as it is, I feel intimidated by the language barrier. I would be able to go out and do fun things that are marginally legal if I felt comfortable explaining my way out of things. However, I feel trapped by my dependence on English. Yes, they speak English mostly everywhere. Yes, I can definitely get by without speaking a lick of Czech. But I don't want to. I don't want to have the stigma atatched to me before I even open my mouth. I prefer to let people apply their own stereotypes to me, thank you very much.
I don't seem to be able to send e-mail through outlook. I can't log on to webmail. I can't even log on to the setup page. Something is fucked up. I don't know if it has to do with being in Prague, or being in this dorm, or what. But one way or another, I'm sending e-mail via different channels nowadays.
Google Earth is my new best friend. I have managed to learn so much about the city just from looking at aerial photos and street map overlays. I've been keeping track of keypoints in my life as well. I will hopefully be getting this up somewhere so you can check it out (if you have Google Earth). I'm really digging importing GPS data into Google Earth to see where I have been. Very interesting.
I am officially the biggest dork in the world. Thank you.
