On getting my car. ;)

I was quite enjoying my fried rice at Portage Place with Marivic and Mark after my work got cancelled this Friday (and still get paid, how cool is that? LOL) when I got a phone call from my dad. It went like this:

Dad: Asan ka?
Me (pause): Going to work. Why? (and of course you know that this is a BIG lie.)
Dad: Anong oras uwi mo?
Me: 9 PM pa. Bakit?
Dad: I think I found your car.
Me (drops my chopsticks in surprise): My car? Are you serious?
Dad: Nagbayad na nga ako ng deposit e. Uwi ka na nang maaga ha tapos pag-usapan natin. (Talk about luring me with a car to get me home early.)

When I hung up, I pulled Mark's sleeve and squealed with glee. I was squealing all the way when we got to Marivic's car (which I had to drive, by the way, since they were both too tired to drive) and the squealing and the giggling resumed until I got to their house.

When I got inside the house, I bounded down the stairs and told Jheron, who looked adorable playing WOW after waking up from his afternoon nap, that I was getting a car. I wanted to squeeze him and hug him when I told him--I was THAT happy. I was getting a car, my very own baby!

The next day:

So I woke up at 8:45 AM to get ready and see my baby. When I got home the night before, my dad told me that I might get a Chevrolet Malibu '05. He showed the picture to me, and when I saw it, I was like, "Gah." It was purrr-ty! I couldn't wait to see it.

We got to the dealership an hour later. I took my baby out for a test drive, and I fell in love with it instantly. The interior looked awesome--it was really spacious, and it had the coolest dashboard. Everything was computerized, and the sound system was the BOMB! I was ready to take it, but then my dad was like, "Maingay yung makina."

Frankly, I didn't care, but my dad was going to buy it, so I didn't say anything. We asked if we could test drive other cars--an Aveo, and a Cobalt. I liked the interior of the Aveo--it was dark blue, and it looked cool. But I didn't like the steering, so it came down to a choice between a Cobalt and the Malibu. I honestly couldn't decide--I liked the Cobalt because it had a spoiler (I like to speed, apparently), and the steering was great, but I didn't like the colour and the interior--it was too beige!

Decision time came and I was still undecided, so I went out to check the two cars again. I sat in the Cobalt and waited--I didn't feel anything. I got out and went to the Malibu, opened the door, and sat in the driver's seat. I just had to put my hands on the steering wheel to know that this baby was meant to be MINE.

(That isn't my baby. I took the picture off the internet coz I didn't have a digicam to take a picture of my own baby. And I had to take it back to the dealership to get customized mats and mud guards and stuff that my dad only knows. I don't get it back until Friday, but until then, I'm getting a courtesy car.)

And so it was. When they handed me the keys, I was totally ecstatic. We had picked up Marivic and Jheron to go driving with me, and that day I was just driving around, having fun with my baby, making plans about going out a lot and seeing the city so I could finally get used to driving by myself without asking for directions.

Yeah. I can't help but feel incredibly lucky.

Thanks, Dad.
