weird thoughts

i have been wondering, why do couples call each other sweet names?
like:

dear
darling
baby
sweetie
honey
lovely
.
.
.

and the list goes on..
i, myself, have been calling my jj these names too.
and have been called.

but whhhy?
who invented them?
is there really a need for them?

do they come about because there is a need to fill up some sort of sweetness threshold?
do they come about because there is a need to be find some strings to link 2 persons' hearts together?
or do they come about just to fill up a void in conversation?
i wonder.

but whatever it is, i bet we are the couple with the weirdest nicks for each other.. and the couple which changes nicks the most often.
haha. guess we both like new and refreshing things.
hopefully, it is healthy.
