Stop the Madness, Judge

Mar 23, 2005 21:18

So honestly until about a few weeks ago I had little interest in this Terri Schiavo case. When I saw the President of the United States, as well as a bipartisan Congressional midnight meeting, I assumed that this would eventually end up being resolved by some kind-hearted judge who also believed in "erring on the side of life," which is incidentally a beautiful phrase.

But now...Dear God...now, it seems quite the opposite has happened. These judges - multiple ones, mind you - are content to err on the side of death: i.e. that this woman die, not of her own volition, but of inaction. Where the hell are the heros? Compassionate men and women are being thrown in jail for trying to give Terri water.

And Terri's not completely mute, nor is she entirely brain-dead as the media lets the masses infer. She talks, she responds, and while she's a bit retarded compared to her normal self, she's still a viable human being. She is NOT, as one reporter said, a "vegetable." Vegetables don't talk, asshole.

I'm indignant. There is a song for this. It's "Center Aisle" by Caedmon's Call. Here are the lyrics:

"What crimes have you committed
Demanding such penance
That couldn't wait for five more minutes
And I cry for help
Cause this room is so peaceful
And this room is so quiet
And I hate the silence"

Terri Schiavo is starving to death, in the presence of those who murder her passively.

*Silence for the Dying*
