the *blank*Salmon bot explained.

If someone contacts you with "Salmon" in their screen name, take heed:

This is a bot.

It IMs two people with the same greeting.

Both people converse with it, but the bot is actually directing their comments to eachother.

IE:

PotentialSalmon says "Hi" to Person1 and Person2.

Person1 tells PotentialSalmon "Go away."

PotentialSalmon tells Person2 "Go away."

Person2 tells PotentialSalmon "WTF you contacted ME."

PotentialSalmon tells Person1 "WTF you contacted ME."

and so on.

I'm really tired at the moment, so I might not be very clear. Here's a visual aid.

The REAL people are the faces.

The BOT is the face.

--"Who is this?"--> --"Who is this?"-->

<--"You tell me first."-- <--"You tell me first."--

The bot is between the two people. Each person is talking to the bot. The bot is directing everything said to the opposite user, making each of them think they're having a conversation with the bot itself.

Both users think the other user IM'd them first out of the blue.

Yeah, the people that make these abominations are real assholes.

If you are contacted via AIM by someone with "salmon" in there name, I'd suggest you immedately say the following:

"Hi. I'm a victim of a dumb internet joke, and so are you! This name you see is actually an automated 'BOT' that contacted you and I - and now it's redirecting our comments to each other. I didn't contact you, and this bot also tried to make ME think that YOU contacted me. This isn't my screen name, and I see it as your screen name, too because of the bot."

... or something similar.
