The Tanis were siblings that joined the Shinsengumi around 1863. Prior to that time, Sanjuurou had been a spear instructor and taught Harada Sanosuke. Sanjuurou became the captain of the 7th unit as well as an instructor and Senzaburou was adopted by Kondou Isami before the Ikedaya Incident took place and given the name Shuuhei, though after a short while the adoption was dissolved for unknown reasons.
There was a story that Sanjuurou was acting as a soldier's assistant in suicide, but failed to chop off the guy's head properly, which lost him his reputation and got him murdered by Saito, but that might not have really happened.
I'm not sure what the reference to adultery is, but Mantarou did eventually divorce his wife later in his life and move in with a lover instead. Certainly that would contribute to the end of the family line.
The 30/10000/1003 thing is a number pun in the tradition of Shinsengumi no Makoto ep. 16. Sanjuurou's name contains the characters 三十, or 30, the "Man" of Mantarou is 万, 10000, and Senzaburou contains 千三, 1003. I wonder if the person who wrote these lyrics also conceptualized that episode......
