Holly J and Kurt - Food court (Open to others) queenwitha_j September 19 2009, 17:44:13 UTC
Holly J had been showing Kurt a few standards of going to the mall. Clothing stores, jewelery stores, book stores. The usual stuff. She did get distracted a few times finding clothes she liked, but figured she didn't need that much, she brought a lot from home. Also this was all work, she was making herself known to the school. Helping a few of her less fortunate classmates, cementing herself as being a good nice person so people do what she asks later.

However, she went to a place she figured would eventually come up, and definitely be of importance to Kurt, who was very nice... and cute. She kind of liked his accent too, kind of. "This... is the food court, all malls have one of these, let's everyone get their own kind of food but eat together." There were a lot of places she would happily eat at, and a few she looked at and cringed at the thought of eating there. She then said two words she might regret later, and rarely ever said, "My treat." She could get her food after Kurt found what he wanted. She had breakfast so food wasn't a huge concern for her body.

She looked at a casual burger stand. Not a fast food global like a McDonalds, but a nice small grill, maybe a small franchise. It made her miss home, working at the Dot. She hated it at first but it did have some charm to being nice to people and getting paid for it. Treating being nice as the work it really is. Okay, so it wasn't really work when she was mostly dealing with Spinner, but the rest of the time it was.

Kurt had had an awesome time shopping with Holly J. He didn't really care about the clothes and the jewelry and thing so much, and having just come from another country he didn't really have much money with him to spend anyway. But just being seeing all of the different stores and the people in them had been pretty cool. And Holly J was very nice, if not a little uptight; he really appreciated her taking the time to show him around like this.

Of course, he was in absolute awe when they stepped into the food court. So much fast food in one place! It was amazing. And even more amazing was Holly J's offer, "Really? You mean it? Wow, thanks!"

Had he had his own money with him, Kurt probably would have proceeded to get a little bit of everything, but since someone else was buying he figured he should probably be at least somewhat reasonable. Wanting to try something knew, he decided on a little taco stand. He headed back over to Holly J with a couple of burritos in hand.

Holly J quickly paid for the burritos (ew) for her new friend, "Go pick a table and I'll join you." She quickly walked over to the sushi place. She knew it wouldn't be the best sushi in the world, but it tasted good and had small portions. Unlike most people she actually didn't get hungry an hour after eating Sushi. Which meant she could look like she was eating a normal portion of food for once.

She sat down across from Kurt, "So Kurt, what was your life like, um... before here." She knew Kurt's life was... not standard, before here, but no details yet as to why. He seemed nice enough, a bit of a goofball, but even the dorks in her school had friends. It would do her some good to learn about her classmates a little.

Kurt took a seat at a nearby table and began munching enthusiastically on one of his burritos. "Oh man, this is awesome." He would definitely be remembering this eating establishment in the future. Oh yes.

But as Holly J asked her question. Not exactly his happiest topic of conversation, and he'd been asked about it a lot in the past couple of days. And he supposed the asking would continue for a while until he started to get to know everyone. "Not very interesting. I couldn't leave my house, because of my mutation. Ever. Coming to the school was the first time I did." Not that Holly J was going to understand that, since she hadn't seen him all blue and fuzzy yet, but he couldn't very well show her in the middle of the crowded food court. He smiled, "But now I'm here so that doesn't really matter anymore, right?"

That was weird, why wouldn't he leave his house. He didn't look abnormal... she stored this information away for later. She took out her chopsticks and ate one of her sushi rolls, "Well, I guess here is good for you. Mall, friends, and school. Things you didn't have before that you'll love. Well, maybe not school. But the other two things are good."

She felt a little bad talking about her life given what he just said. Her life wasn't all that rough when it came to her powers, except for the things she beat herself up over. Like what happened at the Dot, which Spinner told her wasn't her fault, she still managed to save the day without powers. "Before I decided to come here, one of my friends got shot protecting my secret."

"I think I love it already," Kurt agreed with a grin, "And I bet even the school part will be great, too. I mean, classes based on our powers: how cool is that?" The stricter schedules were probably going to take a little getting used to, since he'd been homeschooled at his own pace his whole life, but Kurt was still looking forward to it.

Her story really hit home for Kurt, since he'd had the same thing very nearly happen to him the one time he had been stupid enough to wander away from his home. "Wow. That's...just awful. I don't really know what to say."

"We have to do the other classes too, but I guess it'll be... interesting," she honestly wasn't sure how this whole 'learning our powers' thing will work. Her power wasn't really a learned thing, it was a live with it thing. What would she do while her classmates teleported, flew, and shot lasers out of their ears or whatever? She could just use the time to keep working on balance and strength training.

"He's fine now. But... not something I've come to terms with, exactly," she omitted her exact relation with Spinner, and what that meant about how that night and the next day went. She still had no idea what her other friends would do if they found out. That idiot doing her favors... however she didn't want to get hung up on her past right now, she did remember she should write him soon.

She quickly changed pace and gave Kurt a nice smile, "So how does your power work anyway, I know its teleporting but..." she really wasn't sure what she was asking, as far as powers went that was a neat one, but could he teleport anywhere, how did he teleport, what made it work? How far could he go, that sort of thing.

"Well, I can't really blame you there." People's inability to accept mutants in general was something Kurt didn't know if he would ever come to terms with. And if something had ever happened to his parents while they were trying to protect him...well, he didn't really want to think about it.

He thought her question over for a moment, "I'm not exactly sure. But when I met with the prof., he thinks that when I teleport I might actually be going through another dimension or something! But uh, I need to be able to see where I'm going, or at least know."

"That's... really cool actually," Holly J smiled. It was kind of neat to be able to go anywhere like that, quicker than running certainly. It was a little intimidating, everyone she's met so far has had a pretty impressive powers. Sure, she had a useful power, but it was hardly the flashy stuff of her classmates.

Of course, she was ready to turn her unflashy power into her greatest advantage. She could hide as soon as she was done with school. Which suited her fine, to be a normal person, normal life, normal job. It's why she started working when her family was rich. They had made their stance on mutants clear, so had her sister. She just ate quietly for a little while, unsure of what to ask next. He was... not the usual person she'd eat lunch with.

"Thanks! I think it's pretty cool, too," Kurt replied. He didn't mean to come off as sounding cocky or anything. He just had always loved his powers, even if his mutation was difficult to deal with at times. "The whole other dimension thing is a little freaky, though."

THen an uncomfortable silence fell over them for a moment. He could tell Holly J was thinking about something pretty hard, but he couldn't really tell if she was upset or not. He didn't really want to leave the silence hanging though, "What about your powers? You know, if you don't mind me asking..."

"I can imagine," Holly J half-lied, she wasn't exactly sure how to imagine another dimension. Was it like here but slightly different, completely different, exactly the same, empty? Too many options and she had no idea how any of them worked. Then again Kurt didn't exactly understand it either.

"Oh, me? Um... my body just works better than human. Stronger, faster, need less food and sleep," She ate another of her rolls of sushi. "It isn't anything grand, but it makes me..." A freak "Special." There was a tone in that last word that said she wasn't entirely thrilled with it. "I've been told my powers have 'great potential' and that I've 'only seen the tip of my abilities.' Whatever that's worth..." She would be fine if this was as far as her powers go.

"Hey well that is awesome," Kurt replied. He could tell by the tone of her voice that she was not terribly thrilled about her powers, and he hoped to maybe cheer her up a bit. Plus, he genuinely did think that is was pretty awesome, "It's like having a whole bunch of different powers rolled into one!"

But still, it was pretty obvious that her powers were not Holly J's favorite topic of conversation, so he didn't want to dwell on it and upset her. Especially after she'd been so nice to him all day. "What other sorts of things did you do at home?" he asked, "You know, like sports and stuff?"

"Yeah, I guess." Holly J loved her powers, they made her life easier, let her do a lot of stuff last year. Just with all the focus on mutants, it was more trouble than it was worth. And now that she was at a school with people that had powers greater than hers. It was intimidating.

At least she was still pretty and rich, "Oh, I was student council president and head of my school's cheer squad. I also worked at a grill part time for a friend." Her life was pretty good, she didn't want to rub it in. For once, possibly Spinner's fault. In fact, certainly Spinner's fault. "Otherwise it was shopping, dances, and everything else that makes school. Well, school."

"Wow that is a lot." Although, Kurt supposed, if you didn't need to sleep as often there was a lot more time in the day to do things. But he decided not to actually voice that comment. "Kind of like your powers, right? A little bit of everything."

"Not really, I have a lot of free time. I can sleep when I'm old," he didn't say it, but she had no problem to admitting it. At least, one on one with someone, "Yeah, kind of like my powers." She guessed, all her powers had a common string. But not all of her activities did. Some of them were to be popular, yet she still worked at the Dot. Something considered the opposite of popularity.

She looked down at her sushi, "Um, want to try one?"

"Yes but, still you probably should try not to over do it." Even if doing all those things was easy for Holly J physically, it seemed to Kurt like more than enough to overwhelm a person.

Kurt had already long since finished his two burritos. "Yeah, sure!" He replied excited, then added a bit more sheepishly, "Uhh, you sure you don't mind?"
