It's hitting the ground that hurts )
Sometimes there were even other people on the roof, and today was one of those days. From experience, he knew that sometimes people went to the roof to avoid other people, so he cleared his throat softly--wouldn't want to startle someone off the edge!
"Would you mind if I sit out here, too?'
Reply
"I don't mind...this is everyone's roof after all."
She'd seen him around school but she hadn't talked to him before. Maybe he'd prove to be a useful new friend.

He gave the fan a passing glance as he took a seat. He might have been more put off by the unusual size if one of his acquaintances back home weren't in the habit of carrying around a very large spatula.

She hadn't seen many people up here...but she also came out at night. Security guards were easy enough to sneak around. Well...except Shepp but he didn't seem to care as long as she didn't start any trouble.

"What about you?"
Reply
"Thinking about training. Just...putting it off."
Reply
This was a little awkward, but Ryoga latched onto the concept of training--that was something he was very familiar with.
"What kind of training?"
Reply
Training was steadily becoming a core part of her life again. Without the distraction of dating she had more time to herself.
"Endurance and stamina mostly."
Reply
Endurance and stamina, huh? That made sense, except for...
"On the roof?"
It certainly wasn't the first training location that occurred to him, but there must be some reason behind it, or she wouldn't be up here.

Except for the last time, she fell from five feet in the air and busted her lip. If she gave out before she made it closer to the ground, she'd be out of commission for a while.
"Haven't you ever done training like this before?"
Reply
After a moment of confusion, Ryoga realized she must have some kind of mutation that involved either flight or something else that slowed a fall.
"Kind of, I guess." He did have a tendency to push his limits, but he also had enhanced durability, which helped considerably in not doing himself permanent harm.
"Have you ever tested yourself from this high before?" Not that it was really any of his business, but he'd rather not just stand by and watch someone break their neck.
Reply
Shaking her head, she looked down again...everything looked so small from up here.
"Mm...no, not really. I figured that maybe the necessity to stay in the air would help though." It seriously sounds logical in her mind. "I've only practiced about five or ten feet before."
Reply
He leaned forward to peer over the edge of the roof, trying to estimate the distance to the ground.
"Sometimes it takes a little more than necessity," he mumbled, mostly to himself. The next time he spoke it was at regular volume. "Do you have any kind of backup plan? You know, to try and keep yourself from crashing, if you don't quite make it? That way you could try it more than once."
Reply
"I just figured if I couldn't make it, I'd try to land in the lake. It's not like I could try this with a safety harness." Besides the fact it would be an unnecessary weight, she didn't see any way to ensure that the cord would be long enough.

Bringing his thoughts back to the present moment, Ryoga peered forward in the dying light. "The lake seems pretty far... The pool's a little closer." He chewed his bottom lip as he considered a third option that he wasn't sure would be well received. "Or I could catch you." He said the last part all in a rush.
He immediately felt like an idiot. He probably could, though. There was no way she was too heavy, and even if that fan was made of lead, he could handle that, too. He just hoped she didn't take it like he thought she was weak.

Quirking an eyebrow at the boy, an almost cruel smirk crossed her face. "You say that like I'll actually fall." Honestly, she was more than a little scared, but with everything that had been happening in her life, perhaps it was time for a new outlook on life. If she fell, then she obviously wasn't strong enough. If she succeeded, then she'd certainly put on a good show.
Besides the fact that no matter what she told him, she wouldn't land in either body of water...even at her age, she had no chance of being able to pull herself out of the water...and she'd never let this fan get that damaged. Of the few gifts she'd received in her life, Duo's present meant more to her than anything else.
