Characters: Franky, Jim Hawkins (Message me if you want in) Location: Shop room Time: Backdated to not long after the Nexus Content: A man's got to know when to move on. Format: Prose. Warnings: Sads.
There were few staff members Reki had gotten to know more than a name basis, and even fewer that he could consider someone he liked and trusted to do something akin to their job. So, after the Nexus mess, Reki decided to check on one of them. Franky had been on the space station with him, so he had probably gotten thrown into the fray.
Reki knocked on the door frame to the shop room. "Hello? Franky, are you in here?"
The sound of the knock at the door and the voice of the network guy earned a raised eyebrow. He didn't know what the guy would want with him; maybe just something technical about his job or whatever. Ex-job, as it were. Well, better to let the guy in than wonder.
Franky gave a loud grunt in response, looking back to the dismantling of the sonic cannon he'd put together a while back. "You need something?"
Frowning for a moment at the grunt, Reki wavered in his decision to check up on the large pant-less teacher. It looked like he was interrupting... something. He didn't have much of a talent for recognizing the pieces of random technology.
Still, he came in all the same; he'd make it short. "I wanted to see how you were doing after everything."
Network-bro had been on the ship, hadn't he? Yeah, the nerd had been there when he'd found the blueprints, he remembered. Things before the actual Nexus had been kind of hard to keep track of afterwords. Part of him wondered what the guy had gone through, but for the most part he figured it didn't really matter in the slightest.
He gave a shrug. "Ehh. Kinda hard to say." He gave a wry grin, still focusing on finishing off his work. "I guess I'm doing how I need to."
"If there's one thing that I understand about you is that you do just that." Whatever happened was none of his business, and Franky would have done what was needed rather than wait and let things deteriorate. Reki shuffled his book from one hand to the other. Then he muttered to himself, "Nothing much to worry about then."
He gave a slight bow, though he knew Franky wouldn't see him, concentrating on his work as he was. "I'm sorry. I'm interrupting your work."
Franky gave a grin somewhere between preening at Reki's compliment and mocking it. "Well, that's what I'm all about, bro. Just finally realized I wasn't goin' the full mile on that. Gave me the right boost.
He gave a small wave of the hand at the little apology. "Not work, just some unfinished business. Almost done with it, anyway. It'll make it easier for ya to have it out of the way."
Ah. The pieces started to fall into place. Franky was leaving the Institute. Well, it wasn't like Reki could blame him. How many times had Reki said he wanted to quit? This had been far from the workplace Reki desired with few bright points.
"That's nice of you," Reki said. "Knowing this place, the only way someone would get 'it out of the way' would be to have a student blow it up."
That earned a laugh, and Franky glanced back at Reki. "I've had more than enough influence around here. The kids'll find a way to get their explosions in anyway." He paused from his work to give a proud flex of one bicep. "If not, then I really was wasting my time on these little suckers!"
He gave the blond man a nod. "Good luck with that. Try not to go crazy, huh?"
If Franky influenced some of the students, then maybe--Reki stopped that thought because it really could go toward the positive... or the negative.
"Ugh. Let's hope that won't be the case." There were a few students and staff that often tested that line between sane and insane. "Try not to get arrested for indecent exposure out there."
"Ha!" The flex became a two-armed one. "They'd have to catch me first! And my bike's the one thing I don't plan on taking apart, so that's not gonna happen." If there was one thing Franky knew how to do, it was dodge the law.
Reki had to laugh at that. The image of the speedo wearing cyborg on a motorcycle with a dozen cop cars chasing him down the highway could not be beat. "Maybe you can teach them how to really drive." The technopath then smiled and started to leave the workshop. Nothing else needed to be said. And, if Reki didn't see one report about a wild chase, he'd be disappointed.
"Good luck out there, and stop by if you ever come back around this area." He paused but didn't turn around. "If someone hasn't blown it up by then."
Franky gave one last wave to Reki as he made his way out. He wasn't sure which thought would be more disappointing, the idea of the uptight guy not managing to keep track of the kids enough to keep the place from explosives, or the idea that the kids would let a little squirt like this keep them from the gunpowder. Most likely the latter. "G'wan, Network Bro, you got a hell of a lot more boring shit to do than me. Have fun."
Reki knocked on the door frame to the shop room. "Hello? Franky, are you in here?"
