John's been off lately. Ever since he got back in town, actually. So they didn't have the best conversation at the arcade, but if he'd just told Jane what he wanted to know without hedging so much, it would have gone a lot smoother. He misses his father, that much is obvious, and he's carrying around a lot of guilt and anger about their relationship. If there's one thing Jane knows intimately, it's guilt over the deceased. He also knows that if John doesn't do something about it, he's going to self-destruct, and the school really needs him to be at manageable levels.
So Jane takes it upon himself to help, because John sure as hell won't ask for it. He waits until the end of the school day, when things are winding down for the weekend, and pokes his head in Sheppard's office.
"May I have a minute? We need to talk."
