angels in flight

It was one of the first times since before winter had really settled on the Institute that the weather was suitable for late-night flying, which he found was the best time for really flying, where there was no one else in his way in the air or on the ground. It was easy enough to slip out his own window and dart off into the air, cool but not sharply so.

He skimmed close to the ground, twisting in the air before barreling straight up and then backwards, maybe an inch from staff windows, though he didn't touch them. And then down again, playing chicken with unmoving ground, darting straight out along the grass just before he slammed into the ground.

And then up again, spiraling and whirling in a display of actual technical prowess he didn't often show, usually more concerned with speed or force in his flying.
