Xion wandered through the school, not usually venturing to this part of the school but looking anyway. She hadn't been planning on finding anything, but then she heard the sound of music and peered into the room.

Derrick heard Xion approach but continued practicing as her melody drew closer and closer. He looked up when he thought Xion would be by the door. "Hi."

She hadn't expected to be noticed so fast, but when he greeted her the hooded girl waved and stepped inside. "Hi. What are you doing?"

[mutedbackbeat]

Music empaths were unfortunately hard to sneak up on most of the time. "Practicing the bass." Derrick lifted up the instrument as if to show her. "Even if classes aren't being held, felt like practice would be good."

He paused for a second before asking, "How have you been doing?"

She nodded a little in understanding (that thing he was holding was a bass, right?), at least in the practice part. She'd be going to the gym soon to do that.

"I've been... alright." The 'getting stuck in a dark plane' had freaked her out a bit, but she'd come out physically unscathed so the trauma wasn't quite as tangible and was leaving her quicker. "What about you?"

"Been doing a lot of school work catching up after being out so long." Derrick wasn't sure how he would have caught up if he still had classes. Still, some things weren't so easy to catch up in like band and self-defense.

He plucked a string on the bass. "Otherwise okay. Not so tired anymore."

"That's good." He'd had a whole lot of work to get through, after all. Hopefully there wouldn't be much more added until it got done. Xion looked at the bass with a little interest, asking, "What are you playing?"

"Nothing at the moment, practicing a few notes." Derrick could hear the curiosity in her melody. He didn't want to disappoint her, so that really only meant one thing. "Uh... could try playing something if you want..."

"Would that be ok?" she asked. After all, he was probably still busy... That didn't mean Xion didn't want him to, though.

He nodded. Then without saying anything else, Derrick listened to Xion and started to play some notes that turned into this song as the melody went on.

... It was slow and sad. Derrick wished he knew more about music and playing the bass, so he could maybe bring the song to something brighter. However, he didn't and continued playing the tune as it was.

Xion listened quietly, not sure what this song was but not really minded, she never heard that much music anyway. She stayed silent as he played, not interrupting and looking very attentive.

Finishing up the song, Derrick looked a bit embarrassed and glance apologetically at Xion. "Sorry, probably better to play something more upbeat?"

Xion shook her head, with a smile. "No, it's fine. It was really nice. Thank you." Yea, it was sad, but that didn't make it a bad song, right?

No, the song wasn't bad at all. This one had a different sadness than ones Derrick had heard, and something inside of him said that it wouldn't stay sad forever.

"You're welcome." Then he asked as a thought occurred to him, "Are you interested in music? Don't remember seeing you around here before."

"I don't really know anything about it." Which was true to an extreme sense- she'd never even heard music before coming to the school (in the brief time she'd been with the Organization, she wasn't let near Demyx, for fear that he'd be a bad influence). She still didn't listen to it, other than when other people had it playing.

"Oh..." Derrick's voice was a light mix of surprise and confusion but lacked any negativity. "Would you like to?" Band took all levels of music knowledge. Derrick didn't have a lot when he first started.

But he didn't want to assume or make Xion feel like she had to do anything. If she was only curious, he wouldn't mind helping to satisfy it. "... Or maybe another song at least? A happier one?"
