Derrick wandered into the Telepathy and Empathy classroom Wed. afternoon after returning from the hotel and his side trip. Someone had told him his teacher had changed. Class professors changed a lot; it was just a fact at this school. Derrick couldn't deny he was partially glad for the change. It gave him an out for a month's work he had missed for various reasons, some out of his control. At least Derrick had one class he wouldn't have to struggle to catch up in, especially when this class had been so hard for him when he had been.

But the music empath hadn't expected the classroom to have changed like this. He stood at the door looking into the room, amazed, and listening to the music.

Anna stopped what she was doing and looked over at the door, smiling at her other student.

"Hello there!"

[mutedbackbeat]

Oh. She noticed him. Derrick walked further into the classroom, looking around more as he did. "Uh, hello. I'm Derrick Williams. I'm in the class."

[serenaede]

Anna smiled once more. "Hello Derrick, I'm Ms. Irving." she said in her gentle voice as she got up.

[mutedbackbeat]

"It's nice to meet you." Derrick put his hands into his coat pockets. "Uh, are you still moving in? Can come back some other time." He didn't want to bother her.

"It's a pleasure to meet you as well." Anna said gently.

"It's alright! You are more then welcome to stay!"

[mutedbackbeat]

"Oh. Uh. Okay." Now that he was here, Derrick wasn't sure why he really came besides introducing himself. Should he ask about assignments or things to bring to class? He dropped his head; he was never good with meeting new people and not having something to do. Derrick and social situations were always awkward, even when he could hear that the other person wasn't upset at the moment. "Uh, need help?"

Anna laughed to herself a little bit. She already knows what kind of person Derrick is, of course with her powers and all.

"Sure, if you'd like! There are flowers and paintings in that box over there. I put nails on the walls in places where I would like to put everything." She said with a smile. She hoped to open this boy up once her class actually started.

[mutedbackbeat]

Derrick nodded and went over to the box, noticing the changes in his new teacher's melody. Ms. Irving was probably reacting to something unseen, like he was.

But this was something he could do... as long as there wasn't more to the flowers like some kind of order. He took one painting out of the box, looked at it, looked at the hook on the back, placed the painting on the nearest nail he saw. Then he stood back a few feet and stared at the painting. Derrick couldn't tell if it looked good or not. It was straight, at least.

"Like that?"

Anna looked over, smiling. "Perfect." She said simply. She began watering the flowers that was the most thirsty.

"So how long have you been here, Derrick?"

[mutedbackbeat]

The cheery tune coming from Ms. Irving confirmed that she really was okay with how he hung it. That was good.

"Came after Thanksgiving Break." Derrick went for another painting to hang up. "So, not as long as someone, but not so new either."

[serenaede]

"Oh I see." She said as she watered the next one. He seemed very dull. But for some reason, she sensed something else from him but she wasn't sure what quite yet.

Anna stopped watering and stood in the middle of the room with her hands on her hips, looking about and admiring her work.

"I think this room has successfully been brought to life, don't you think?"

[mutedbackbeat]

'Oh I see' wasn't very encouraging to hear normally, and Derrick heard how Ms. Irving's melody didn't sound very pleased all of the sudden, having dipped from a brighter tone to a lower one. He looked at the painting in his hands, hung it up, made sure it was straight, and put his hands in his pockets. Whatever he did to make her upset, he didn't know.

But he should go now. Derrick felt like he had bothered Ms. Irving.

"Yeah. ... Lively." He shuffled a bit where he was before turning toward the door. "Uh, see you at class..."

"Leaving so soon?" She asked curiously. She hoped she didn't upset him at all.

[mutedbackbeat]

"Uh... yeah." Derrick paused a bit where he was, but really, he should go before he made things worse. "Got a lot of homework to do." A month's worth in quite a few classes to be exact, so that hadn't been a lie.

He started for the door again. "... E-excuse me."

[serenaede]

"Ah, I see." She said and looked down. But then she looked at him and smiled genuinely.

"I look forward to seeing you again. But next time in a class session." Oh how that woman smiles.
