There was Riza, suited up and already with a few laps under her belt. Swimming wasn't her favorite way to exercise, but her father had told her to lay off the track until she'd had a few more lessons about control. Scared? Maybe he was; she sure as hell wasn't. This was a school for people like her. It wasn't like turning into a werewolf in public was going to get her hurt here. Still, he was right about the school so far, so maybe he was right about this, too. So she would stay off the track for now.
Just as well. The moon wasn't anywhere near bright enough to see properly. Leisurely jogs and power-walking were never her style. There really wasn't anything like sprinting her heart out under the full moon. Even before her ability manifested, she liked going fast. Far as she was concerned, the "family gift" just made what she already liked even more fun. And yeah, her dad wanted her to join the family business or whatever, but for now, she'd just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.
Damn it, now that stupid song was in her head! And she couldn't keep swimming with a talking fish stuck in there. She finished the lap she was on (probably five or six by now) and clung to the side of the pool. "All right," she said to no one. "Let's get some metal in here." She cycled through CD after CD in her mental jukebox, then finally came to a decision and hit play. "When I get high, I get high on speed!" she shouted into the night. And immediately regretted it as she realized she had to mumble through the next line. She made up for it by bellowing, "My heart! My heart! Kickstart my heart!" and everything was all right again. It looked like that was enough to shove that neurotic fish out and get Vince Neil firmly planted in her head. "Hell yeah." She laughed triumphantly and pushed off.
