Count Down The distorted images and video clips from the other day had been bad enough. Starr had taken all her pictures down and hidden them. She just couldn't bring herself to look at them any more without getting the creeps. The Music in the school was building up around her into a feeling of dread and chaos. Everyone was scared and unsure. They had just dealt with one crisis, Starr couldn't imagine what could be happening now.
And then she'd woken up Thursday to find that if the Music had sounded bad before based on people's emotions, it was even worse now. The Music she could hear with her powers was now playing backwards. She wasn't sure how she could tell that sort of thing, but it was obvious. On top of that there was a beating sound under lying it all, like a heart. It's throbbing was the kind of warm heartbeat you associate with being close to someone though. This heartbeat was more ominous and foreboding. There was nothing Starr could even do to ignore it. The regular music on her cds and what not were all playing backwards as well.
There was nothing she could do to drown it out and Starr found that she was starting to get more and more terrified each day. What was going on? Why hadn't someone been able to fix it yet? Starr swallowed, trying to be brave, but she really just wanted it all to go away. Panic sinking in, Starr finally pushed herself off her bed, grabbed a jacket, and stormed outside. It was still cold but she didn't care. She stalked away from the building and finally plopped down on the ground several feet away. It wasn't helping. Starr could still hear the Music from here, coming off in waves from the school like an unpleasant miasma. The terror, fear, and general uncomfortableness of the people within the school seemingly made worse by the fact that it was coming to her backwards. It was wrong, so wrong.
Starr pulled her knees up to her chest, trying to concentrate and turn her ability to hear the music off.
