Blossom had been the first to step through the time rift and as such was the first one back. She could tell from the other side that the stability was failing and that if they didn't get back they might be lost in time. Fortunately they'd made it through before the portal collapsed completely.

Or more accurately before Derrick did. Blossom's eyes widened as her eyes immediately focused on Derrick as his legs buckled and he nearly collapsed. In a flash of a pink speed boost she was by his side, catching him before he dropped completely, "Derrick!" Carefully she helped to lower him to the floor just as the other girl was collapsing nearby.

It hadn't even registered that the portal had worked or that she was HOME, her immediate concern was on the fact that Derrick's pulse was extremely erratic as was his breathing. Blossom tried to remember some of the survival things she'd picked up along the journey back in the 1800s and quickly assessed the situation, her mind racing a mile a minute. Time seemed to slow for her as she examined everything, being a speedster certainly helped for that. From what she could see the portal had just shut down, Derrick had clearly been powering the machine based on his proximity and the glowing blue orbs. The orbs! A year ago, a few days ago, whatever the case she had talked to him about them before. Their conversation had been about the energy they caused and how they were created around music.

She looked down at Derrick again and Blossom noticed the ear plug cords snaking down from Derrick's ears and into an mp3 player. "Ah-hah!" Blossom quickly reached for the device and turned it off.

With the second generator connected and Jack working on the third, Foxx finally looked up, just in time for several things to happen in very quick succession.

The portal flared and three figures stepped through. That much, at least, was a success.

Not ten seconds later, the machine gave a loud whine and died, the generators not able to create enough energy to keep it running.

And two tunes bottomed out one right after the other, dropping nearly to silence as Derrick and Alex collapsed to the floor.

"Derrick!" Foxx abandoned the now-defunct machine and bolted to Derrick's side, jerking in pain as the spheres shocked against her skin and in surprise as Blossom beat her there. At least Derrick hadn't hit the floor, and Blossom turning off the mp3 player meant that no more energy spheres were appearing. That was one thing taken care of.

Which left the bigger problem of her unconscious friend.

"Derrick!" she tried again, laying a hand on his shoulder. He was exhausted - something was wrong - and she was at a total loss for what to do. All she could do was look at Blossom, anxious, hoping that maybe the other girl or someone else in the room would know how to help.

Sanji had noticed during the transit that something felt off- on the way over the sensation had been unpleasant, like missing a foothold and waking up from a bad dream rolled into one, but it had been fast and light. This time it had felt like a push to get through, and as he skidded out into the present behind Blossom it was as if his worst suspicions and highest hopes were being realized at the same time.

They'd made it back alive; good.

There were two very near-dead students, one of whom he knew and one of whom was a lady; very very bad.

"Ah-!" Somehow managing to use the impetus of arrival to slide up to the new girl he left Derrick to the care of his friends- presumably his state would be similar to hers, and if they crowded nothing would get done. Checking her pulse and other vitals his heart finally felt like it had started beating again, as his face regained some ability of expression that wasn't shock, although it stayed bloodless with concern.

"She's alive... not in too bad a state either, seems like a sort of coma though." Noticing for the first time that he'd practically run over Jack he nodded up in mute thanks for the work, before looking around to check if everyone else was okay.

"We need to get these guys to the infirmary, stat."

Hajime had been the last through, and the last to take in the situation on the other side of the portal, primarily composed of noise, light, and a few semi-metaphorical dying fires. Through the fractal view his ruined glasses gave, he didn't even register who it was that was collapsing on the ground, only that their fires had withered down to a terrifying dimness.

Blossom and another girl rushed to one of the fallen figures, so Hajime rushed with Sanji to the other flickering fire. It wasn't just the running or the dust that had dried out his mouth, looking at her; sometimes, it seemed, being able to see less would be more of a help in keeping calm.

For an instant it flashed through his mind that he could try to feed their fires a little more, but Hajime pushed the idea aside. He didn't know what that could do, and if anything went wrong, the backlash... Instead of worrying further, Hajime picked up the unconscious girl--a feat that would have been much more difficult a few months back. "Come on, there's no time to waste!"

Indeed, there was no time like the present.

Jack watched the proceedings almost blankly, feeling a strange mix of emotions. On one hand, he felt triumphant; his machine had successfully sent Curly back in time and returned he and two others to the present. On the other hand, there had been a problem with the machine, it had lost power faster than it should have, and now two people were...

Well.

The machine had been flawed, was the main thing. A very successful failure.

He moved out of the way of the others, tittering around Glow-boy and the girl with the cool lightning hands, and watched the tindrils of purple and orange still swirling around the portal thanks to the generators. He reached over and switched off the power to the generators, and with a soft pop they and the machine went dead.

"Then get going," he muttered irately. "And get out of my lab."

Blossom didn't know who the girl with silver hair was, but obviously if she was here she had helped save Blossom and Hajime. Another obvious thing was that she was just as concerned over Derrick as she was. She looked up at the other girl, "He's not responding and his pulse and breathing are still unstable. We need to get him medical attention." Blossom didn't exactly have the super strength that Buttercup had but her strength was certainly more than your average 15 year old teenage girl. She took Derrick's arm and slung it over her shoulder, pulling his body up from the floor.

She looked over to Sanji and Tanaka who were checking on the girl. Apparently her condition was similar, "Right, Derrick's not doing much better. Which way to the infirmary?" After all, it'd been a year since she'd been here...plus she wasn't that familiar with the area they were currently in. At least, not with all of Jack's things in it.

She hadn't even noticed Jack until he spoke up. She gave him a brief look before nodding, "Thank you." She had a feeling he'd probably been the brains behind the machine, especially if this was "his lab." Yep, she'd have to come find him later.

"Go right." At the least, Foxx knew where the infirmary was. "It'll be in a hallway on the left. It's not too far."

She had more to say - an offer to help, an urging to hurry - but Jack's words cut it dead. Sure, they had been successful, but people had been hurt in the process. From the sounds of it, he didn't even care.

She straightened up and turned around, silently stalking over to him, too overcome with anger to speak. With everything that had happened, all he could say was get out?

She stopped in front of him, finally meeting his eyes with a dark glare. "Fine. We'll leave."

Then she pulled her arm back, threw her weight into it, and socked him hard across the jaw.

Whilst Hajime received an approving smile, Jack was two steps away from the chef, and at hearing what he had to say two step away from a very painful flight through the nearest wall courtesy of Sanji's heel... but Miss Foxx saved him the trouble of being reprimanded for assaulting a student, as she beat him to the punch. Quite literally.

Really, all he could do was give her a small round of applause before holding the door open and nodding them through it (he would have picked up Derrick, but Blossom still had her arms around him, and he was hardly going to interject).

"Nice work everyone," a particularly mischievous grin landed on Miss Foxx, "let's wrap this up."

"Of course, of course..." Impatience was creeping into his voice more as a subset of panic than irritation. Had Hajime been a little less distracted, he would have felt his own little bristle of indignance at the pale boy's harsh tone, but instead he was mostly trying to make sure that the others were taking care of the fallen before running off.

It was, however, hard to miss the punch thrown by the silver-haired girl, and he jerked briefly in surprise; perhaps the teamwork to bring them back had not been as uniform as he'd hoped. He felt a twinge of guilt, and he couldn't exactly be sure who he was feeling it for.

But there wasn't the time to think about it--Hajime gave Sanji another nod, and made for the door. Thank yous and apologies would be given to all in due time, but things needed to be finished up first. "Ikuzo, we need to hurry!"

To say Jack was a little frightened when Foxx stomped up to him was to say the Artic Circle was a little cold.

Jack shrank as far back against the machine as possible, starting to raise his hands, a protesting squeak starting to come up his throat, when the girl reared back and socked him square in the jaw.

Jack reeled back from the force of the punch, slamming against the metal frame with a nice crack. Tears of pain sprang to the corners of his eyes as his hand slipped up to cradle his now aching jaw.

He scrambled back even further, squeezing into a corner, and watched through the tears as they started to carry Glow-boy and Alex out, fearful that Foxx was going to hit him again, or worse, Sanji. And he certainly didn't want to die today.

Really, there was just no pleasing some people.
