"Tch. Of course he have a plan, Curly," Jack snapped, though he was mentally trying to figure out what exactly that plan was. "Or we have a plan for getting you in the past. After that, you're on your own."
He walked over to the time machine and stood in front of it. "The time machine is set to send you back to the time and place the history teacher gave you. You should land not too far from where the missing losers are supposed to be. Find them and get them back to the time portal before it closes, or then we'll have to send a search party back for you, too." He rolled his eyes as though this were sure to happen. "I can't guarantee how long the portal will stay open on your side; could be a few days, could be a few hours. It's impossible to really tell, so I'd hurry if I were you. We may have a time machine, but we don't have all the time in the world."
"Meanwhile, Glow-boy here," he jerked his chin at Derrick, "will keep the machine running. We've got some extra generators set up to help him out," he nodded at the machines lined up near the time machine, "but it's going to be mostly on him.
"When you find the kids and get them back, you'll return to some point in our future, probably just a few minutes or so. For you, any amount of time could pass, and your body will feel the effects, so be careful not to think you'll come back feeling like it's only been a half hour." It would probably feel, to Derrick, like however much time they spent in the past passed for him, too, and would put incredible strain on his body. Jack decided not to mention this. Maybe it would work out and Derrick would be fine so nobody wouldn't kill him?
"After that, everything goes back to normal, and you can all claim how Jack Spicer, Evil Boy Genius, is even more incredible than Tony Stark." He cackled at that.
"Oh, and one more thing; anything you do in the past will have a butterfly effect on us in the future, so don't go all psycho-crazy and kill anyone, okay, Curly? You never know when you might whack one of our ancestors, and then we'll all be screwed."
[[OOC: Sorry the picture is crap, but that fun swirly thing behind Jack is what the time portal looks like. It actually has a metal frame around it though, which you can see a little of here. Oh, and looking back through things, by canon his time machine can transport over space as well, so it doesn't matter WHERE they are. Huzzah for canon-approved loopholes!]]

"I'll do it. Don't worry. You can take all the credit after," Derrick said to Jack. He didn't want to be a hero; he wanted his friend and the person with her back. Whether any of the others knew how dead serious he was on making sure the thing stayed active, he didn't know, didn't care. He'd power the machine and get the three of them home or die trying. ... In which case, Morrison would have to take a trip to a mailbox for him.
Derrick gripped his MP3 player. It was fully charged and ready. After looking at the time machine, he looked at the one who would actually be using it. "Sanji, we're counting on you. Bring them back. Please."

Of course, her frustration could just be misplaced worry: for Sanji, going back in the past in a machine that was not exactly up to Foxx's standards; for Derrick, powering the machine virtually singlehandedly; for the people stuck in the past that they were attempting to find; for the plan in its entirety.
"...and you can all claim how Jack Spicer, Evil Boy Genius, is even more incredible than Tony Stark."
Or maybe Jack really was just a prat. "Funny," she replied lightly, "I don't recall Mr. Stark needing help building his suit." If poking at her own contributions was the expedient way to shut Jack up, she was willing to do it.
But that was enough of that for now. Foxx checked a few settings on the machine, then closed her eyes briefly to concentrate on its tune. It was working at optimal capacity; this was a good time to go. She looked over at Sanji. "Be careful."

As for Derrick and the lovely Miss Foxx, they had both stepped up greatly in his respect over the past few hours; their diligence and dedication was really quite exemplary, and it was clear that Derrick was truly concerned for his companion to be going to such lengths to save her.
Donning the stetson he'd grabbed from his room on the way out (it looked like he'd be arriving some place in America during the high summer so he'd need the shade, and you never knew when hiding your face might come in handy), he gave them both a grateful nod, directing an extra reassuring smile at Miss Foxx.
"It'll be three people coming back, or none. I'll do everything I can."
Stepping up in front of the bizarre metal ring he gave the machine a dubious look over; it looked like something off of a bad Frankenstein movie set. Still, it was the best they had, and he had no intention of backing out now.
"So? We good to go?"

"Yeah, yeah, you helped, too," he grumbled, rolling his eyes. He would have pointed out that the original design was all his, but Sanji was protective of girls, and he was standing right there, and Jack had lost his bargaining chip now that the machine was complete.
Speaking of the cook, if he simply had to know, Jack found the cook rather scary. And there was always the chance that he might meet someone as obnoxious as Jack he might see fit to kill.
And he wouldn't have worried a bit about leaving him in the past. He'd be doing the world a favor (or at least the present), as far as he could see.
Shooting another look at Foxx, this time to be sure it was time to go, Jack moved aside for Sanji to step up, then walked over to the controls for the machine and pulled a lever. There was a metallic whirring, and then the time machine started up, a purple and orange swirl appearing in the center and spreading out.
"Alright, Glow-boy, start doin' your thing," Jack ordered Derrick, and once the mutant began powering the machine, he adjusted a few more dials and knobs to make sure Sanji would get sent back to the correct time.
For a brief instant, it crossed his mind that the evil thing to do would be to send him to the wrong time and then pretend like the entire mission had simply failed. His hand paused briefly on one dial, his brow creasing.
Then he finished tuning it to send Sanji safely back to the 1800's and nodded at him.
"You're good."
[[OOC: In my muse's defense, Tony had help the first time by movie canon. And the second time he had Jarvis. Anything's possible with Jarvis! XD (I'll shut up now.)]]

There was only one thing Derrick needed to concentrate on, which was why he had been listening to the Music so much.
"Right." He ignored the "Glow-boy" nickname again. Derrick put his ear buds in and took a deep breath as the music started to play and the energy spheres formed around him. Then he sent a few to the time machine.
"Good luck and be safe."

Her head snapped up and she fixed Jack with a dark stare, at least until his tune leveled out and the readouts on her side showed he'd input the right date. There was good reason she still didn't trust him.
She glanced to the portal, then to Sanji. "See you soon." Because he would be back.
[Oh, no, I know. XD She's snarking him because Tony's kind of her role model aaaaand Jack is Jack.]

Fixing the swirling mass of time with a determined look, he nodded in reply to the kids' farewells, trying to convince himself that he would be coming back.
"Well..." He placed his hands securely in his pockets before stepping forwards, "no time like the present."
The neat black shoes, neat black suit, neat black hat and well kempt blond hair existed for a moment more, and then it was as if the cook had walked through a door that had no other side.
