Maureen had also tried Feuilly's cell phone. And his work phone. And the other job's phone.... In a pair of skinny jeans, a tank top, boots and leather jacket, she rushed into the coffee shop.

Oh, thank goodness it was Thomas working! She let out a sigh and rushed forward... Until she realized that Feuilly would be here around now too not that she had some of his work schedule memorized or something. "Thomas... Hey, babe," she greeted him, albeit a little breathlessly.

Something at the edge of his perception caught Thomas' attention and he looked up towards the door a half second before the door opened. The bell jingled cheerfully as Maureen rushed in, breathless. "Hey gorgeous," came the easy answer. He raised an eyebrow and nodded at the clock. "I didn't think it was yoga day."

Maureen smiled slightly and shook her head. "It's not... I also canceled classes this week... Ah.. something's come up..." she explained, partially trying to calm herself down a little. She was a little more on edge now that she realized he wasn't here.

"You're not too busy to chat a little, are you?"

He swiped at the counter with a wet cloth, brow furrowing as Maureen spoke. At first he'd thought she was just frazzled, but now she sounded on edge. "For you, never." Thomas grinned and nodded towards an empty table near the front. "Luckily, I have a break coming up. Want a cup of tea?"

"If you weren't working, I'd kiss you," Maureen laughed, shaking her head. "A cup of tea would be perfect..."

She pulled out enough money to cover the tea, handed it over, then smoothed out her jeans. "Whenever you have a moment... I'll wait..."

"You'd let a little thing like that stop you? I think I might die of disappointment." Thomas teased, pouting. He busied himself pouring a cup of hot water and adding a teabag and pouring himself a cup of coffee. Making sure there were no customers about to walk in the door, Thomas picked up both cups and came around the counter, handing the tea to Maureen.

He gestured to a pair of free armchairs before flinging himself into one, somehow managing not to spill a drop of his coffee. "So what's up, gorgeous?"

"Maybe I won't," Maureen replied, lightening up a little. If anyone could cheer her up, it was him. But she easily sank back into her worried state. She accepted the tea and followed him to the chairs.

Instead of sitting in the free one, however, she perched herself on the arm of the chair he flopped onto. "Did Feuilly call in or just not show up today?" she asked, taking a sip of her tea.

When Maureen took a seat on the arm of his chair, Thomas grinned up at her, resting his hand against her hip as he took a sip of coffee. "Didn't show," he confirmed. "I figure one of his friends had finally dragged him somewhere fun. Like Vegas."

Maureen shook her head slowly, but didn't protest the hand on her hip. She sighed and brushed some of his hair out of his face. "No... I wish that were the case," she mumbled. "Bahorel's nowhere to be found either... He didn't even show up to his own 'Screw Monogamy' bar hop on Valentine's Day..."

She glanced away and sipped on her tea. "Something's wrong. A lot of kids and staff have gone missing... And I think Feuilly and Bahorel are included in that..."

The light touch of Maureen's hand against his face earned her a wider grin, which promptly turned into a frown at her words. "The kids too?" he asked, a little sharply. Belatedly, Thomas seemed to realize how it had sounded and tried to rein in his thoughts.

Dammit, Raith, your brother's survived eighteen years without you, he's not going to disappear just because you went to work.

He shook his head, still looking worried, and forced himself to remember who he was talking to. And who they were talking about. Right, Feuilly. "Well, if the kids at that school are gone too, that should mean they're mounting search parties and all, right? Maybe we can get in on it and use their resources to see if they'll find Feuilly too."

"Some kids," she replied quietly. Noting his immediate change in demeanor, she ran her fingers through his hair, nails grazing his scalp in an attempt to calm him down.

"I'm looking into it... Ah, checking up here was part of my own search efforts..." Maureen agreed softly.

There was a pause as Thomas tried to formulate his question without giving away which particular students he was worried about. Fortunately, Maureen's fingers running through his hair gave him the perfect excuse to think. "It's just that some of the students come by often enough that we talk, you know?" he asked, a faint smile on his lisp as he leaned into Maureen's touch. "Like the really tall gangly kid with the bad jokes. And the cute blonde girl, Juliet."

Thomas nodded thoughtfully. "I know some people around town," he offered. "I can see if anybody's seen him. Or some of the kids."

"The tall gangly one... Well... Once I find a list of missing students, I'll let you know... Juliet's not one of them at least... She's still using the yoga room even though class was canceled..."

She nodded her head slowly. "That's perfect... And I'll ask some of the people I know... Someone has to have seen something."

It would be just his luck that the one student Maureen was certain wasn't missing wasn't actually the one that worried Thomas more. Still, it wasn't her fault and Thomas nodded, forcing himself to relax and repeating his mental admonishment to calm down. "Thanks for keeping an eye out. I'm glad to hear that Juliet's accounted for. She's a sweetheart," he said, reaching up to catch Maureen's hand in his and brush a light kiss to her knuckles.

Thomas settled back in the chair and strove for a way to alleviate some of the tension. "So the 'Screw Monogamy' party didn't happen?" he asked, with an arched eyebrow and a grin.

Maureen smiled slightly, some of her own tension disappearing as he kissed her knuckles. "She is.... Like I said, I'll keep you updated at least?" she replied quietly, lacing her fingers with his.

She raised her eyebrows back at him and bit back her own smirk. "Can't say it did... Others might have shown up, but I left when I realized he wasn't coming..."

"What a shame, it sounds like that could've been a great party. But if your special someone isn't there..." Thomas teased. It sounded a hell of a lot better than his Valentine's Day, that was for sure. He'd spent the day looking over his shoulder, expecting a knife in his back. Getting laid hadn't really been on the table. Nor had getting smashed.

Some birthday.
