"No. I have to fill out these... progress report things."
He waves one vaguely.
"What's going well, what's going badly, goals. All the good stuff."

He has a few hopes and dreams; none of the ones he's thinking of are ones he can share though. He's going to have to think more about what to say. "... Liked the paper doll idea better," he says finding a seat.

Paulie looks over at Derrick with a pleased grin. "See, paper dolls are much more interesting."

"Something about progress reports." He goes back to debating the importance of popcorn toppings... and pretending he's not trying to think of a hope and dream that doesn't involve his family.

"How long is this gonna take, exactly?"

He is so coherent am I right.

"So if we tell you we're passing our classes and playing nicely with the other kids, does that cover it?" She reaches over Derrick's shoulder for a handful of popcorn. At least the movie was good.

Actually, in response to Foxx, Derrick only goes to get a cup that supposed to be filled with soda and fills it with popcorn instead. Then he sits back down. The bad guy has kidnapped the bride, and the groom is chasing after the getaway convertible on a horse. He can't wait for Meowzilla to show up.
"English, okay. Chemistry, okay. Math, okay. History... okay. Control, bad. Telepathy and Empathy, bad. Band, good. Self defense... you know more about that," he says to John. Derrick does like his self defense class though.
The goals and future answers are going to be pushed away as much as he can. He's realized he doesn't have any... except for controlling the glowy things.

He shuffles through his papers with a stifled yawn and finds the one he wrote Derrick's name on, quickly making notes from what he said.
"Ok, cool. What's up with Control and Empathy? -- And don't think any of the rest of you guys are getting out of this, I'm not making it up for you."

Paulie just blinks and shrugs.

Derrick is going to go back to what he was doing. He can get away with that for a progress report, right?

"I'm going to class now," he reports, as if this is something to be congratulated. "And my freaky roommate left."
Reply
"Well, going to class is good."
There's a pause as he mentally reworks 'going to class' into something teachery and positive, then 'freaky roommate' into something about settling in well.
"And, average is... good..."
Yeah Paulie gets 'progressing well' and 'settling in well' too.
"Ok, so maybe for a goal Derrick should have... try harder in the classes you suck at? What about everyone else?"

"I'm passing all my classes," is her simple reply to Sheppard's question. Her social life is going better than she ever expected, especially given that she hadn't expected to have one at all, but good luck getting her to talk openly about that.
