While not really built for such travels--and it was fairly obvious, as she hardly looked like she could do more than hold herself up at times--Lain did not complain as she walked through the jungle with a small box, sticking close to The Operative, as he was the only one whose personality agreed with her enough to trust to keep her safe.

She was wearing more than usual, due to the terrain they were moving through, and she shifted a bit uncomfortably, even as she tried to ignore it.

Zidane was making himself quite at home in the woods, while the young man was quite at home in the metallic jungles of a city, proper trees were just as good. He was well above the others moving from branch to branch, he liked it. It wasn't like most of the group could really keep a pace with him in the trees...

He adjusted his mask, an odd white comedy mask. "So... you guys sure this is the right direction?" So far it seemed like the right direction, he was keeping some track of the surroundings. But it all mostly looked the same to him.

Matthew was already feeling unpleasant about this whole Genosha business -- it made him nervous, and not a lot of things did, so that was saying something -- and the way Zidane kept hopping around like a monkey wasn't making him feel any better. "Well, let's see," Matthew said, doing his best to keep his sarcasm as blithe as possible, "there's trees here, here, and here, but you know, I'm pretty sure those trees ahead look like the ones we're supposed to be passing. I say we press on merrily ahead!"

Faith was... Well. She was Faith, which meant mostly she was hugely disappointed with the lack of things to punch, maim and/or kill thusfar. She was, however, doing a nifty job of keeping her impatience underwraps. Mostly because she was sure she was the only one here with heightened senses, so Faith had taken it upon herself to keep an ear, eye and nose out for anything coming towards them.

It was a little thrilling, in all honesty. Reminded her a bit of tracking vamps back home. Only with... A little more jungle than they'd had in Boston.

Matthew glanced in Faith's direction, cocking an eyebrow. She looked to be on the alert, but with Faith, it was always hard to tell.

"Smell any of those control masts yet, Hope?" he said cheekily, swatting a bug away from his ear. Too many bugs for his liking.

"We're going in the right direction," Lain said, quiet as always, as if she wasn't entirely sure she wanted to be heard.

She could feel the hum of the networks that crossed the island, although being disconnected from her computer, they felt more distant than usual. Still, she knew their goal was ahead, and was drawn to the source of technology as technology was drawn to her.

She would leave dealing with the obstacles on the way to the others.

Despite Lain's certainty that they were on the right track, it would have been easy to worry that they weren't. For almost half an hour they were uninterrupted by anything except patches of thick undergrowth that needed to be hacked through, and the occasional startled lemur (looking for all the world as if somebody had just found its porn).

As they pushed further into the jungle, however, they might have begun to notice that the sounds of the jungle are starting to drop off. It was quiet ... too quiet.

That is, until two heavily armed guards burst from the undergrowth ordering the Brotherhood to halt.

Ordinarily Matthew was an extremely prepared individual. Guards? Prepared for that. Armed guards? Doubly so. Sudden telepathic mindlink? Okay, maybe he should have been, but totally not.

In the midst of his distraction, despite dashing back and forth to avoid getting caught in the crossfire or anyone's way, a bullet clipped him on the shoulder just as he'd cut off communication with Orlando. He hissed in a breath and clapped a hand to his shoulder. Fuck, that hurt, but -- this was no time for hesitation, not when he'd already lost so much time to his conversation with Orlando. Gritting his teeth against the pain, he accelerated quickly up a nearby tree and promptly dropped himself on top of the nearest guard.

Lain did halt; her powers were not combat-related ones, and she was not trained to take down guards, even lightly armed ones. Instead she stepped back to take cover behind the others, waiting for them to deal with the threat.

A while back the Operative had vanished into the foliage, telling the others to continue forward while he assessed the enemy's state of readiness.

The harbinger of his return was a sword blossoming in the chest of the second guard like a macabre bloodly flower. "Do you know what your sin is? It is sloth. You laze about, allowing your society to be maintained on a pillar of forced labor. Still, you may rest easy knowing you died doing your duty, so in death at least you have honor.

Stepping out from behind the man, the Operative coolly shook his blade clean. before taking the man's head off. "My apologies. I was ambushed by a family of giant lemurs."
