HOW DID I MISS THIS art_in_chaos May 26 2010, 15:34:16 UTC
Angela was so happy to be out of the school again. And with the worst of the snow being over with, she decided to take her sketchpad outside. Only when she got there it seemed someone was already there doing the same thing. "Great minds." She said with a friendly smile, indicating her own drawing pad.

Feuilly looked up at the sound of a woman's voice, pausing in the middle of drawing a trio of rambunctious five-year-olds play tag amongst the snow drifts. He returned her smile and replied, "Seems like it. You don't find a lot of people willing to sit outside in twenty degree weather to draw."

She took a seat beside him and flipped open to a fresh sheet. "Well, most people weren't in the hospital for a better part of a month. Besides I love this weather. It's like the whole world has stopped. Great for still life." Ange said pulling out a pencil.

A surprised and concerned look passed over his face at the mention of her being in the hospital. "Is everything okay?" He paused for a moment and then added, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to pry."

He glanced around at the quiet townsquare (except for loud game of tag taking place just half a block over), and nodded. "It's good practice. Winter and spring make a bad time for murals, though."

"Oh, you do murals? What of" Angela ties her hair back and sets to work on the architecture of the building across the street.

"Usually whatever the customer's request is." It had been awhile since he had actually done anything of the sort - before Mexico, there was that six-month stint in prison, preceded by certain riots and barricades. Had it been almost two years since he had worked on one? "I'm not very good with drawing people."

She looks up and over at him when he says that, smiling. "That is precisely what I am good at. I even made a living for myself with it, well several, but an actual career for several years. I was told by a forensic anthropologist that I have exquisite attention to detail." Angela said, grinning still. "I should like to see a mural, when the weather is nice. Have you done in any famous ones? Who knew that when I sat down I could potentially be talking to a famous artist."

"Really? Impressive - would I have seen any of your work anywhere?"

He laughed when she asked about any famous murals he might have done. "Nothing like that, unfortunately. I did more when I lived in Chicago, but that was local only and I don't do it professionally. Maybe one day if I ever get the time to exclusively do art."

She looked up and smiled. "No. I helped identify bodies. And before that it was just charactures for tourists in DC. I was trying to pay my way over to Paris. Been a silly dream of mine." Angela responded before turning back to her own drawing.

"How long ago where you in Chicago? Travelling is sort of a thing of mine. I've been all over, so who knows? Maybe I have seen one of your pieces."

"Forensic artist - now that is an interesting job." He sat back in the bench, a distracted smile on his face. "I think it's almost every artist's dream to go to Paris. It's our mecca, after all."

He began sketching absently, turning his attention to a couple of sparrows that were hopping around the crumbs left by an older lady earlier that morning. "I was raised there. Left when I turned seventeen and have been globe-trotting ever since." He chuckled. "It's a small world, so maybe."

"You know, it really was. I mean I don't have nearly the amount of brains as my colleagues, but my old boss taught me that that really didn't matter. That I helped to show the humanity in forensics. A lot of people forget they are dealing with a person." Angela said, a little solemnly.

"Oh, well it seems we have that in common as well. I love travelling. Where've you been?" She asked, drawing the vines crawling their way up the building across from them.

He was quiet for a moment, thinking about her words. "It's all about the statistics for some people," he replied finally. "Sometimes being impersonal helps - not that I know the people you worked with, but that seems to be the case for a lot of people. Makes things easier to deal with - but it's good to remember or else what's the point of that job?"

He paused in the middle of his sketch, tapping his pencil against the paper at the question. "Quebec, Brazil, Tibet, Germany, southern France, Greece, and Hungary. You?"

"My best friend is... very logical. She was the head forensic anthropologist at the Jeffersonian. She compartmentalized every single case. Which is good, since she literally is the best out there, but sometimes she needed me around to remind her they were people, too." Angela stopped and looked over at him. "It was a good job though."

"Well, I've been to every single state, Bahamas, Carribean, Peru, Equidor, Fiji, the Philipines, Japan, Thailand, India, South Africa, Egypt, Russia, and Sweden." She said with a small sigh. Some of those were with her father, but nevertheless, they counted.

He sat back against the bench, grinning. "Sounds like it. You two must have worked well together."

He gave an appreciative whistle. "Any of those for your job or just because you wanted to go?"

She grinned up at him. "We did. I miss her dearly, and everyone back at the Jeffersonian, but I do like my job here. It's quite rewarding and the people are quite amazing. I've noticed a trend in attractive young men though - some of them French." Ange remarked offhandedly.

"Well, I am part Filipino, so I've gone there quite a few times with side trips to other countries. Some of the places I went with my father on business, and then some were just me looking to place to go. You go to an airport and get a ticket for the next flight that is available."

"I've heard a lot of people say that it's a good school to work at," he agreed, although he wasn't quite sure what to say to the latter comment. She must have run into Courfeyrac and his shameless flirtations. That made him smile in fond exasperation.

"Must be nice to just get up and go," he mused thoughtfully. "What did your father do, if you don't mind my asking?"
