"Oh, hello," Volly replied, snapping out of his own little stupor. Although he was not sure how long he had been alone, he thought it must have been a long while, as he was strikingly more hungry now than he had been when he had first landed on the bookshelf. At any rate, he was glad to finally have some company, as the people in the mansion always seemed to know where they were going, and so it followed that they must know where everything was.

"I am afraid that I am lost," he said, markedly ashamed. It was not normal for a dragon to get lost, not when he was going to a place he had visited before - especially when the dragon in question was so keen on flying as Volly. "It is only - the hallways are very confusing, you see, and they all look the same, and also the doors are very difficult to use."

He was getting off topic, as a soft rumble from his belly reminded him. He restated himself and peered down at his visitor. "Will you help me find the kitchen? Unless you are lost too, in which case I suppose we will have to look for a window."

Toris smiled at the little dragon, nodding and gesturing down the hallway in the direction he'd been going. "I was going there, too; we can go together. This place is pretty big; if you go down the wrong hallway you can get turned around easily enough."

He wondered what the dragons ate; logic said it would be some sort of meat, but maybe alien dragons ate something different? Well, he'd find out when they got to the kitchen. It wasn't that far.

"I'm Toris, by the way. What's your name?"

He quickly hopped down from his perch, his talons clicking harshly against the floor as he landed. "Oh, yes, let us go together!" He seemed overcome with excitement at the idea; surely he would be able to memorize the way this time, and would be spared the embarrassment of getting lost again.

"I am Vola-tilus." He had a little trouble getting the word out, but was quite proud of the name regardless. "Toris - why, it is a very short name," he added, sounding a bit smug, "but it is nice."

He trotted over to the nearest door, turning to peer back at his new partner expectantly. "I am sure you will be able to open the doors very easily, but I can help, if you would like."

"My full name is a bit hard for most people to pronounce," Toris said with a smile at the dragon's excitement. "It's nice to meet you, Volatilus. If you'd like, you can open the doors and when we get to the kitchen, I'll cook you something. What sort of things do you eat?"

Ah, that made more sense, although Volly no longer felt so superior about the length of his name. "Yes, my name is hard to say, too. But that means it is an important name, I think."

Volly was unsure how to answer the question about food, however, although he did very much like the subject matter. "I eat cows and turkeys, although not whole ones, because they are very large," he said, a little cautiously; that much was true. "But I had some berries before, when I was with Corfrac, and they were very nice with cooked meat, so I think I would like to eat more new things from now on."

The dragon nodded; that sounded about right, but of course he would not like to eat just berries, so he quickly amended, "New things with meat." Then, hoping to be polite, he added, "Do you like meat?"

"You've got quite a nice name," Toris said, smiling at the reaction and to how interested Volatilus seemed in food. Maybe alien dragons were more like dragons in myths than he thought--or maybe they'd inspired the myths.

"Mmhmm. I know how to make several things with meat in it, if you'd like to try them."

"It is a nice name," he agreed. If Volly had feathers, right then he would have been preening; as it stood he could only jut out his jaw in a very proud, reptilian sort of way. Clearly he thought the name was more than merely "nice."

That said, although he could not quite articulate his worries, he was a little unsure about the concept of food with meat in it (as opposed to meat decorated with very small amounts of other kinds of food). But then, he did want to be adventurous in his eating, and he was getting too hungry to turn down the offer besides. "Oh, yes, I will try them!" he said after a moment, his tail swishing anxiously against the floor. "Only I hope that there is a lot of meat in them, and also that there are no cranberries, because I have already had those."
