After self-defense

He'd noticed the cut earlier in the self-dense session, noticed how he seemed to 'favor' it. Being a swordsman he knew the signs, having worked through enough injuries himself and seen enough on others during baseball and school. Teenage boys and wounds tended to go together rather well, unfortunately.

But that was beside the point. He'd gone to the infirmary and gotten an ice pack and some Tylenol. To others it might seen strange and shady that he was bringing these things to a teacher, but to Yamamoto it was his way of saying thank you for the lessons. Teachers deserved respect, and since John was doing all of this on his own time, volunteering, Yamamoto felt someone should thank him somehow, right? It's just how he was raised.

He came to the door and knocked before poking his head in. "Mr. Sheppard?"

Glances up, about to tell you it's open -- when he notices you've already found that out. He smiles wryly and waves you in. "Hey, sorry for the mood lighting. How're you doin'?"

"I'm fine," he nodded, coming in and closing the door.

He walked up to the desk, fidgeting for a moment before putting down the two items he'd brought.

"Saw it was bothering you today," he said, tapping his own cheek to indicate the cut. "Thought these might help."

He moves a hand to touch at his cut instinctively -- flinches, and raises an eyebrow in amusement. Caught. "Admittedly it's a little sore. Temari made me put antiseptic on it earlier. Thanks." He fishes around in his desk for a bottle of water and knocks back a couple of the painkillers, frowning at you thoughtfully. "How're you finding the class?"

"Good!" Yamamoto took a seat on the other side of the desk, being careful not to touch any of the expensive looking equipment. "It's a bit weird, though. I'm so used to having about three feet of extra space between me and an opponent."

"Generally I prefer to be as far away as possible in an aircraft myself, but..." He shrugs and leans back in his chair. "It tends to be a good idea to get good at things you aren't so keen on'"

"Yeah. That guy, Sanji, actually suggested I might be good at hand to hand combat," he admitted. "I just never thought about it till now. He had a good point though. There might be times I won't have my sword and access to water will be limited. Knowing how to use self-defense is a good idea."
