Elysia was walking around outside, just to wander and think, still not entirely used to being on her own just yet. As she went along, she took notice of other students outside but didn't join them, preferring to be by herself for then.

Until she heard the sound of someone typing. Did someone have a computer outside? Following the sound, she came across a student sitting on his own, typing on a laptop.

Pausing for only a moment, Elysia approached him, coming from the front so she wouldn't startle him. "Hello," she said kindly. "May I sit next to you?"

Jeremie looked up to see her. He jerkily nodded his head. "Uh...sure. If you want."

He slid over to one side to give her some room.

Remembering his manners, he said, "My name's Jeremie."

Elysia plopped down next to him with a warm smile. "I'm Elysia. How are you?" She glanced curiously at the laptop screen. "What are you doing?"

"I'm all right. You?" he asked politely.

When her attention turned to the code on the screen, Jeremie felt a bit more comfortable. Computers and machines were easy to understand. "I'm working on an encryption algorithm that incorporates recursive behavior much like a fractal."

...Okay, computers were easy to understand if you were a total geek.

"I'm alright too," she said with a small giggle.

When he explained what he was doing though, she blinked once. Paused. Blinked twice. Then tilted her head to the side in confusion. "What does that mean?"

Jeremie blinked before scratching at the back of his head. "Well, uh..."

'Simplify...simplify...' he silently reminded himself before he launched into a far more technical explanation.

"Well, recursion is when you repeat the same process over and over again. Kind of like 'wash, rinse, repeat' on a shampoo bottle only you never stop washing and rinsing." He opened a new window and started typing. "You can do the same thing in math, repeating an equation over and over endlessly. Some people use these equations to make fractals, which are just shapes that are repeated on various scales. They're kind of pretty actually."

He typed in a few commands before executing the process. The screen went black just before an endless shape appeared on the screen.

Elysia nodded as he explained it, more or less understanding.

When he brought up the shape on the screen, Elysia's eyes widened and her face light up. She clapped her hands together in delight, leaning forward to get a better look in amazement. "Wow! You made that just by doing a math equation? It really is pretty! You can make other shapes by making the equation different?"

"Yeah." Jeremie smiled a little, escaping out of the image. "It's actually kind of interesting to see how it turns out."

He made a few fast modifications before running it again, the image changing radically. After a few moments, he repeated the process to an equally drastic change.

"Woooow. And you change it just by changing a little tiny thing? I never knew you could make something like that with math! You must be really good at it. Is there anything else you can do? Is that your power or are you really smart without it?"

She meant no harm by her words, looking at him with genuine interest.

Jeremie blushed at the praise, fidgeting nervously. "No, it's not my power. I'm just really good with math and science."

"What is your power?" Elysia asked curiously. "If you don't mind me asking." To hopefully calm things a bit more, she said what hers was first. "I can see truth! It's kind of complicated to explain... I can tell when someone is lying, but it's more than that. I can read foreign languages because of it too. I'm not sure if there's anything else that I can do with it yet..."

Jeremie winced a little. "I call it 'memory immersion' for lack of a better name for it. I can experience another person's memories by touch. I can also get the 'memories' from a room or object by similar means." He fidgeted with his screen. "It's kind of useless really. Gives me nothing but trouble."

"That sounds very interesting! I'm sure it's not useless. You could... use it to become a detective, maybe!" she suggested. "It'd be really easy to figure out who did the crime with that kind of power."

Jeremie blinked before putting a hand to his chin. "It would, wouldn't it?"

Heck, his father's co-worker had been investigated following the memory loop. The missing wife had been found via old fashioned detective work.

"I hadn't thought about that."
