Time: when Derrick first arrives, around early afternoon
Content: Derrick is getting his bearings by listening to the place, also meets new people, a few of them having similar powers and will drag him into band
Format: third but willing to switch it up, also assume the EBA interaction happened first and make a new comment thread

Derrick sat on the bench with his eyes closed, hood pulled over his head, and slightly shivered as he listened to the music around him, trying to get a sense of the place while hoping his other powers didn't go off. He hadn't even checked in to see where he'd be staying or what courses to take yet. (He had called his parents from his cell phone to let them know he arrived safely. His mom's voice seemed agitated...)
Instead, he tried picking out the different beats he heard and mentally noted to match them to a face and name later. The overall music sounded tense; something bad had happened recently. Derrick hadn't been paying attention to the news as he was preparing to leave for the school. Whatever happened, he didn't know. Maybe... coming was a bad idea... but, here he was. That was a fact that wasn't going to change anytime soon. He had to learn how to control that power, so he didn't have to worry about hurting anyone. There were probably lots like him here, doing the same thing. It made sense, right? The news often reported about mutants losing control of their powers, so maybe it was common? He wasn't sure. Derrick had really only known one other mutant and...
He shook his thoughts from his head as he re-focused on listening, absentmindedly tapping his foot to the beat. However, anyone coming by would see there wasn't a music player in sight, no radio or MP3 player, not even a song in the air... unless one had a certain power.
