Kaoru sighed. How could you go somewhere and not bring weather appropriate clothing? It's not like New York winters were a mystery, especially since Yamamoto lived in the same country. Even coming from Japan he knew what to bring. But then again his mother is a fashion designer and New York is one of the fashion capitals of the world, what ever.

He had been to the mall twice before, once with Matt and once with Hikaru, so he was no longer impressed by it's size. It wasn't that big anyway.

"Where do you usually shop?"

Yamamoto shrugged, hands tucked into his pockets as he surveyed the stores within seeing distance.

"I like Ross," he said. "Walmart. Target. Sometimes we go to Old Navy. We loved Steve and Barry's before it closed down. And thrift shops could be fun."

So, basically, cheap places. Nothing fancy. It was rather obvious with his clothing, and considering most of his stuff got dirty it seemed silly to buy expensive clothing.

Kaoru stared at him. Blankly. Or maybe he looked a bit horrified. Ross, Walmart, Target, Old Navy, Steve and Barry's, he's never stepped foot into one of the places, and he never will.

His immediate reaction is to walk away and give up now, but he fixed up Haruhi so he could fix up Yamamoto! "How much money do you have on you?"

"Uh...." Yamamoto went to his wallet and opened it, fishing out a grand total of sixty dollars in cash as well as a debit card, several coupons (including a free chicken sandwich at Chik-fil-a and a free ice cream cone from Dairy Queen, and $10 off a purchase at JC Penny's - yay for the Sunday paper!). "Not to much, and I can't send much either. Dad gives me an allowance, but not much. He needs most of the income to run the store and pay the new hire."

He shrugged a bit helplessly.

Kaoru's urge to just walk away and leave him in the mall rose exponentially. Sixty dollars wasn't going to get him anywhere if Kaoru had anything to say about it. And what is this Chik-fil-a, he would never stoop so low as to eat in a place like that. (Dairy Queen is different, who doesn't like ice cream?)

He rubbed his forehead. "Fine, I can pay or something." That or something was actually a 'maybe I can throw my name out there and hope they recognize it and give you some free clothes,' but he wasn't going to say that out loud; who knows how Yamamoto would take that.

Yamamoto's eyes widened. "What? I couldn't ask you to pay for stuff!"

He might not be rich, but he'd always had a certain amount of pride in earning the things he had. They were his, he hadn't had to ask anyone for money. It made him feel... well, sort of guilty, and knowing that Kaoru was rich and could easily afford it didn't help any either.

Kaoru waves his hand dismissively, "It's fine, it's fine." Usually he wouldn't offer to pay for it, but did this kid need the clothes badly. He starts walking in the direction of one of the higher class shops, "C'mon."

He turns to look at him, "If it makes you feel better, you can repay me."

He followed like a puppy after its master, his fingers twining and playing in a rare show of nervousness. But he nodded, soothed by the idea of paying him back.

"All right I'll pay you back," he affirmed as he followed Kaoru, looking rather like a goose among peacocks when they entered the store.

He paused and looked around, clearly taken aback by the poshness. "Fancy digs," he said quietly, for it seemed some sore of reverent hush filled the area.

Kaoru looked around and shrugged, "It's not that great, but it will do." He walked over to a rack with a trained eye and pulled out a dark blue sweater, examining the size and sleeve length before holding it out to Yamamoto. "Try this on."

Yamamoto took it, holding it gingerly as if he expected it to burst into flame or simply crumble at being touched. He looked around and spotted the dressing rooms.

"Okay, if you find anything else, bring it to me," he said and wound his way through the racks and into one of the stalls.

He stripped and tugged on the sweater, looking at himself in the mirror. He didn't look terribly bad, and the dark blue color was nice on him. The material clung without being constricting, and gave hint at the fact that he actually had muscle - a thing his t-shirts did not.

He popped out, looking for Kaoru. "Um, how does it look?" he held up his arms.

As Yamamoto tried it on, Kaoru walked around the store, not touching anything or picking anything up. He was keeping a tally of things that he might pick up for him later.

He walked over and examined the sweater, pulling at the chest and arms to see how well it fit. "Dark blue is a good color for you." He walks around him. "It fits well on you too."

With that in mind he walked around and picked out a few more sweaters and long sleeved shirts. He handed them back. "These are all the same size, different styles, pick which ones you like."

Yamamoto blinked a bit helplessly when the new sweaters and shirts were given to him. Kaoru said which ones he liked, though to be honest none of these were his sense of style. But that was why he'd asked Kaoru along, wasn't it? To help pick out appropriate things.

He hung them up along the stall door and peered at them, finally selecting two he really liked and setting aside the others. He counted the sweater he had on among those he liked and called Kaoru back over.

"These," he motioned to the three. "Should I try them on?"

Kaoru nodded at him, only half paying attention to him. Kaoru had turned his attention to the pants, Yamamoto needed those too. He could guess his size just by eying him, but didn't want to chance it and was just looking at the selection.

He tried them on each and turn and found them to fit rather nicely. He wouldn't have guessed that just by looking at them, but then again Yamamoto could git his knowledge of fashion into a thimble (and that was probably on the more generous side of things).

He popped out in his original shirt, spying Kaoru poking around the pants. "I'm between a 27 and 32 depending on the brand!" he offered in way of attempting to be helpful.
