[well this is a familiar scene. Kaoru wanders into the kitchen to get something to eat. Maybe an apple or something small, he wasn't that hungry. But as he got closer to the kitchen the more pancakes seemed to appeal to him. ...Was Matt cooking again?]

Matt?

[Doesn't look up from his pot of stock, the miso off to the side. The tofu has been chopped and he puts that in and stirs, waiting for it to simmer]

Mn? [afraid to say much really]

[Takes a look at all the food around him, pancakes, cookies, miso soup. He smiles a little.]

What's the occasion?

[It's simmered now and he pours out some into a bowl, dissolving the miso in that before he turns off the heat and adds the miso back to the stock. Some seaweed and he deems it done.]

...[opens his mouth, swallows, and looks away. He pours the miso soup into a large bowl, covers it, and does a quick wash of his dishes before he moves on to digging in the cupboard. Rice. Where is the rice.]

[The miso smells pretty good, but he no longer cares about his quest for food. Matt's silence was worrying him.]

[Puts a hand on Matt's shoulder] What happened?

[He has to resist the urge to shrug it off. He doesn't want to be mean but...]

[He stays silent, pouring out rice and rinsing it]

[Takes the rice from him] Matt. Tell me.

[notalfredjones]

[snatches the rice back and gives him a quick glare, focusing back on the rice] Lovi broke up with me okay! [rinserinse]

[If Matt didn't take the rice, Kaoru would have dropped it. He really didn't know what to say, or what would be the appropriate way to comfort him.]

I'm sorry. [He thought about adding, at least you have me, but that probably wouldn't help...]

[Kaoru would think more about what that means for him later]

[The rice is being rinsed with quick angry movements and he forces himself to calm down before he puts the rice to boil]

[Then he's looking for the ingredients for stirfry]

[mumbled from inside a cupboard] Not your fault. My fault.

[hugs him from behind, leaning his forehead against Matt's back] Partly my fault too...

[Sorry Ru, he can't really deal with that right now.]

Isn't. [shrugs out his arms and hands over the letter. He's going to be chopping up the vegetables now]

[reads over the letter] It isn't your fault. [No, really, it's Kaoru's fault for messing with your relationship]

[rolls up his sleeves] Let me help cook.

[tucks the letter back in his pocket and gives him a look] You may eat the pancakes or the soup. You may not touch the vegetables.

Why not? [reaches for a vegetable]

[vague tiny smile] I haven't taught you how to make this. Who knows what disaster could pop up.
