Utena watched the girl flip and cartwheel from the distance, thoroughly impressed. When she landed, she gave her a hearty applause. "That was great!"

Jinx glanced over in the direction of the applause, feeling a bit sheepish. Nonetheless, she curtseyed and grinned. She hadn't meant to perform for anyone, but it was nice to receive an unexpected compliment.

"Thanks. By the way, I love your hair."

"Yours is fantastic too. I'm Utena Tenjou. It's nice to see another athletic girl around here." And another girl with pink hair. They seemed to have so much in common already!

"I'm not that great at team sports," Jinx admitted, "but I've always been pretty good at gymnastics and things like the high jump in track and field. Oh, and you can call me Jinx."

She'd avoided introducing herself by her real name, and thankfully her teachers had at least been willing to allow her to drop her first name from the school records.

"So, how about you, Utena? What kinds of things do you like? It's not exactly a sport per se, but you should definitely come out to laser tag sometime if you're a fan of physical activity."

Utena nodded with a smile. She was good at those, too. "Nice to meet you, Jinx~"

"Activities?" She beamed. "Sports." She didn't specify a particular sport, because she was yet to find one that she was bad at and/or didn't enjoy. Anyway, laser tag sounded fun. "I should. Tell me when."

"Oh, by the way, mind if I join you?"

"Not at all," said Jinx. "And I'll be sure to make an announcement next time there's a group outing for laser tag. It's more fun when there's a whole bunch of people...and the local laser tag place is mutant friendly. I was thinking of applying for a part time job there."

She cartwheeled once more before giving Utena a chance to show what she could do.

"I'm sure it'll be great."

After watching Jinx do a cartwheel, she quickly followed, showing off by doing two.

Jinx applauded, then broke into a short run before leaping up into the air, flipping in midair and landing gracefully onto her feet, raising her arms up into a finishing pose.

Utena smiled. "Impressive." It really was, so she attempted to do the same thing, even though she hasn't done anything like that before. She managed to pull it off, but the landing was a little bad... Well, not little. She landed on her rear.

"...Er."

"It takes a little practice," said Jinx with a smile on her face. She didn't laugh - that was reserved for people who made a bad impression on her in some way.

"You didn't quite flip over enough to have a balanced landing," she added, offering her observations. "You started well, though."

"Maybe I'll get the hang of it soon," she stood up, dusting off the dirt on her butt. "How long have you been doing this?"

"Ever since I was a kid," said Jinx. "I used to make my mom freak out when I'd cartwheel across fields in the dresses she made me for renaissance fairs."

She smiled fondly at the memory.

Utena chuckled. "I'm afraid that I don't wear dresses so I wouldn't know."

"I've always liked wearing them," said Jinx. "And then keeping up with the boys anyways. Of course, my style is a little less cutesy and frilly now."

And by little, she meant a lot. A lot of Jinx's clothing looked as though she'd stolen it freshly off the racks of Hot Topic. In some cases, she had.

She'll make a weird princess, Utena thought. She felt like she had to admire her, though; she seemed like a very strong woman, but she never lost her femininity, unlike her.

"I prefer boy's clothes." Utena shrugged. "Boy's stuff, boy's games... I'm just not the type of person that'll wear a skirt."

Jinx would have chuckled at the very idea of her being considered a princess. She was much more of the witchy type, as far as she was concerned. Although she wasn't as bad news as she used to think she was, and she seemed to not be having any real trouble making friends when she put herself out there and let herself actually talk to people.

"They're not for everyone," she said. "And people should wear what they're comfortable in." She paused for a moment to add a disclaimer after a thought came to her. "...as long as what they're comfortable in is getting washed regularly and isn't like the clothes this one guy was wearing on the bus last time I went into town. Ick."
