[ the strange noises had attracted pepper's attention, and when she gets closer to the danger room, she suddenly feels very hesitant about entering or getting any closer upon seeing the shadows and what have you. however, as far as she knows something isn't right here. ]

[ pepper starts slightly at the sound of steve's voice, turning to look at him with considerable relief. the thought of being around this creeptastic place is nicer when you're there with captain america. except she's not going to exactly bring that up. :'| ]

So did I, but apparently we were wrong. [ she pauses, eyeing the door again, dubiously. ] That or someone's apparently making an exception for Halloween.

It looks that way ... [takes a curious look inside the door] It's been a while since the last time I visited a haunted house ... want to take a look?

[ she hesitates a moment, then nods. man up, potts, she thinks to herself. ] Might as well, since we're here.

['ladies first' doesn't really apply to this sort of situation, so he goes on in, taking in the creepy surroundings - from the drippy, twisted trees to the unpleasantly porous ground underfoot - with slightly raised eyebrows. By no means frightened, but he will definitely acknowledge that it's creepy.] Wow, they really went to town with this, didn't they?

[ pepper makes a point of sticking close to steve, very unnerved by the appearance of the room, looking obviously uncertain of herself as she moves forward - thank god she swapped heels for flats today. ] And they're probably achieving the desired effect with it too.

[Ground luuuurches slightly, like a more subtle and disgustingly... meaty version of being onboard a ship]

[The voices are becoming louder and more urgent, now, though it is still not clear what location they're coming from. There is some rustling above them.]

[Steve looks around them, trying to pinpoint the source of the creepy voices, to no avail - he looks up immediately at the rustling, though, more tense than he needs to be. He forces himself to relax a little, but he's kinda frowning now.]

[ pepper muffles a small noise of surprise against the back of her hand when the ground lurches, feeling goose-bumps crawling all over her skin. she swallows slightly and glances about them, not particularly subtly moving closer to steve again. not that she cares about subtlty right now, because good grief. ] Any... any idea what that was?

[Birds]

[One of them looks imploringly at Pepper, croaking out what is probably a desperate plea for assistance and dribbling slightly. Another hops closer, staring at them and rotating its head impossibly around, ragged feathers oozing.]

[Voices are coming from their throats.]

[lowering his voice a little] Those, apparently. [takes a step back from the HORBL BIRDS - automatically putting himself between them and Pepper but still, yeah, definitely moving away. Does not like this one bit, but, he reminds himself, it's an illusion being programmed.] I hope it's not one of the students doing this.

[ as one of the hops a little closer pepper manages to stifle a little noise of discomfort and practically walks into steve, unable to stop herself from clutching at his wrist a bit. ] If it is they're at least achieving the desired effect, I'm sure. Sorry, I- sorry. [ is. not letting go, though. ]

Not as far as I know? I mean, I've never really had much reason to be down here, but this definitely doesn't look right. [ pepper, on the other hand, has been in very few situations personally that have scared her. she has been in plenty where she's been afraid for someone else, but before the field-trip? she'd done a gone job of staying out of trouble. ]
